j0z3r
I don't recall seeing mention of this as I read through, but I've become a big fan of Plantation 20th Anniversary Barbados rum. It's sweet, but not overly so, smooth as silk going down, I sip it neat, and just a pleasant flavor profile. Of course this thread has put some rums on my shopping list for the next visit I make to the liquor store.
ckearns
I'm not a rum guy myself, but I did find this article from the NY Times very interesting. http://www.nytimes.com/2011/06/22/dining/s...&ref=dining Has anyone tried the West Indie Rhums? They sound very interesting.

They sound very interesting. Very good article. Thanks for posting. Been to Martinique a couple times. Their rhum agricoles can be very good (they make some swill too!) but it is an entirely different flavor than the "industrial" rums. I have a tough time picking a cigar blind, but could always tell the distinctive taste of a rhum agricole.
MadMax
Just finished a bottle of RZ 23, just cracked open a bottle of El Dorado 12yr. Which is going great with the BBF I'm smoking! Was in my local store today and they have Mt. *** Extra Old for $44 and change, that will be my next bottle!

brazoseagle
I think Cruzan Single Barrel with a couple of cubes of ice paired with a nice cigar is one of the most enjoyable things in the world. Appleton is ok, and so is Brugal.
brazoseagle
» Been drinking Cruzan Rum for over 30 years. Never fortunate enough to have » much of the cuban variety. Like to mix mangos in a blender with rum, OJ, a » little lime, and ice. Makes a great cooler on hot summer day. :-) Cruzan is a good inexpensive rum. Zaya and Zacapa for higher end stuff. I like Appleton and Goslings a lot as well. Never had the Havana Club. That's what's great about Cruzan , the price. The Cruzan Single Barrel Reserve just got rated the highest rating out of all aged rums, including havana club: The top 10 were: (out of 1000 point system) Cruzan Single Barrel - 801 Diplomatico Anejo Rum - 763 English Harbour 25yr - 719 Pusser's Nelsons Blood Rum - 718 Havana Club Seleccion de Maestros - 717 Pampero Aniversario - 714 Ron Abuelo 7yr - 704 Vizcaya Cask 21 - 703 Ron Abuelo Centuria Rum - 668 Montecristo 12yr - 667

phoenix
I prefer the HC Anejo to the HC7, it's much smoother going down and has less of the harsh wood taste. Completely Agree.
davidsan
Just ordered a bottle of the Angostura 1919 8 Year Old Rum. I had never come across it before & thought it might be worth a try. Anyone had it before?

Anyone had it before? never seen it referred to as an '8 year old' rum before though it may well be. the 1919, from memory, coems from some old casks that they found after a fire that they traced back to 1919. pretty good rum and for me, recent bottlings have been some of their best. the 1824 is probably worth the extra tho. winelover
In the UK, it is easy to find Havana Club and the 7 year is easy to find and inexpensive at under £20 - available at most supermarkets. Whereas Ron Zacapa 23 Solera is £53 at Tesco! Sounds like it is much cheaper in the States from what I've read above. Not seen HC15 although I expect it is available from a more specialist retailer. I've gone through a bottle of HC 7 year and whilst I like rums I just can't take them so seriously like I would single malts, cognacs or armagnacs. One day I am sure I will catch the bug though. Also if I have good rum, I want to drink it at room temperature or a little warm - to get the extra aromas - like with brandy.
LGC
This is my favorite rum at the moment. The best rum I've ever had was the Cuban Ron Matusalem 15.

I've spotted it online at an eye watering £120! About 6 times more than the 7 year. Can't see it anywhere cheaper. Is the HC15 really worth 6 bottles of HC7? kjellfrick
Diplomatico is too much like candy to my taste. Tasty but over sweet. How much sugar is there added to that rum, seriously? The cuban rum that I like best is the Ron Santiago 11yo, with the Edmundo Dantes 15yo as a close second.
