CIGARhead was mentioning in another thread how good the PSD4 were when fresh. I have a host of cigars I enjoy when young and wondered if anyone else felt the same way. A great yound cigar reminds me of when I was 17....brash, bulletproof, a little rough around the edges and full of potential. Bloody enjoyable period of my life :-D

Here are my 5 favourite freshies.

Ramon Allones Specially Selected

Montecristo Edmundo

Montecristo Number 4

R&J Exhibicion No 4 Cabs.

Cohiba Lancero

05 Monte 2's have also been magnificent.

Damn right. In addition, I have been enjoying some recent HdM Epi 1's. Right tasty. Don't forget Upmann the magnificent... the new 46's are great ROTT.

I'll tell you, I smoked another '05 PSD4 today and a '04 Mag46 tonight and I cant begin to tell you guys how enjoyable each were. These obviously have great potential in the aging dept, but IMO if ya got 'em smoke 'em. Now, once these get down to half a box (which both are right there!) I will set them aside and buy another box of each to enjoy half of.

I had a beaut of a Monte 5 a few weeks ago and it was a very rich flavorful cigar. It will def. be a next box purchase.

Another great freshie I've experienced is the Cohiba Siglo I. Just a ridiculously great smoke. I LOVE "EM ALL:-D

i agree whole heartedly with the rass. some don't care for its young flavor, but i think it is the best robusto at less than a year. the reyes is good, as well.

put my vote down for the m/c edmundo. just loving them. perhaps i got a great box as i have heard some less enthusiastic reviews (sorry, rob, this one came from havana - i may soon have to restock through you though).

This is a great topic for me. I have only been at this hoby for two years and therefore could not been aging long. The mature cigars that I have were bought that way.

Since I like to smoke two to four cigars per day I need to find the good "Freshies".

I like RASS, PLPC and SigVI.Got some of the PSD#4 on the way.

I'm with ya on that patience issue Mel. I am trying my damndest to age some cigars I have, but alas it does not seem to work for me. I am going to have to go the tried and true way and that would be buy 2 boxes of each cigar you like, one fer now one fer later.....I'm sure El Presidente would agree with me on that method; right Rob?;-)

Yeh man this is a good theory espoused by the money making merchants but there is no assurance that any second box will make it for very long.

My method is to buy way more cigars than one can smoke, build more humidors and hope the wife never finds out. Oh she knows I buy and smoke but how I BUY and SMOKE.

Oh Rob did you get that ton of stuff I sent you?

Let me add to that list the BBF. They are godd fresh and aged. Had a db of OSU JUN 03 last year that I smoked thru too quickly and have a cab of FRH NOV 04s now that are quite good too.

I agree with the Edmundo too, late 04s are quite nice -- a strong coffee character. As for the RASS a fav, I think they are best when aged, just my opinion. Great stick NO doubt. As orginally noted the PSD4s are the tesxt great cigar smoked fresh.

Divino's are great fresh

The MC2 and MC5 are both great fresh (since '04)

PSD4

PLPC's have been smoking pretty darn good (04 production)

let's see, what am I missing......Oh, got it.

Seleccion Robusto boxes smoke wonderfully fresh.

I like this topic!

Wondering how people's freshies have changed from then until now?!

I will always like fresh (a year) BRC, SLR Regio and Monte 4's.

Bolivar Coronas Junior.  Easily the most delicious cigar I've ever had, an that first one was "right off the truck.". I wanted to eat the stick- that's how good it was!

Comment from Left-field: I love a forum where you can resurrect decade-old threads. Sometimes the members who contributed have passed out of this world but their discussion lives on [i think Fidel Castro himself commented on this at the beginning under one of his pseudonyms lol]. Long may it continue.

Anecdotally I'm currently smoking one of Rob's fresh picks - box of LGC no4 only a few months old - and its great. (thanks for the tip Pres). Tastes like the last third of my now deceased boxes of LGC no1s from circa 2000-02.

I'd need to smoke hundreds more cigars per year to make a statistically-relevant comment on this. My mileage has always varied. But i do enjoy reading the Rafael Gonzalez dress box blurb along the lines of: "smoke it within 6 months or wait a couple years". With Habanos using so much more aged tobacco these days one year old boxes seem so much more approachable than they were 10+ years ago - when this thread was started (!!!). Feliz ano nuevo, amigos!

+1 for the Bolivar CJ.  I totally agree.  It smokes so well when young.
