genevapics Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 ... I hope this isn't against FOH policies; I don't think it is. Anyway, outside of our own review section, where else do members turn to for reviews on Habanos? I am not looking for a site that also sells cigars; I only shop here at FOH. But I would like to find a few good sources for reviews out on the web. Currently, I go toCigars-Review.org. I have found it to be very useful and informative. In addition, I have found many of our own FOH members posting reviews there. Members such as Habanohal and Tampa have posted wonderful reviews at this site. Are there some others that I should take a look at when trying to ascertain profiles of certain cigars? As always, thank you for the help. Geneva [NOTE: If this post in any way represents a violation of FOH policy, I will gladly remove it.]
El Presidente Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 I am not a tyrant !LOL! Great reference sources are always welcome
jay8354 Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 » I am not a tyrant !LOL! » I beg to differ :-D Good thread, thanks. Also, interested in other source of information to expand my knowledge.
Tampa1257 Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 As far as Cigar Reviews go, the only place that devotes themselves to just cigar reviews that I know of is [link]http://www.cigars-review.org/[/link] where you have to be a registered member to post a review. I too seek opinions of certain cigars that I have a possible interest in and often read the opinion of others there. When I write a review, and it has been determined by others to be a good representation of the cigar, I typically post it there as well so that maybe it will help others have an appreciation of what a cigar tastes like in my opinion, after all, all a cigar review is, is a verbal description of how a cigar performed for them when smoked. If there are other review only type sites available, I too would like to know about them.

Most are not very detailed, but they do include a rating system, price, etc. It is fairly decent. It contains both Cuban and NC brands. I think they are over the 20,000 review mark. Of course with quantity, the quality also suffers (i.e., some of the reviews suck). However, there is good data through which to sort.
Well Armed Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 sounds like FOH needs a Reviews section (a la CW) now to go along with that Introductions section they SHOULD be working on as we speak.

Wiley Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 I sometimes like reading that site, but I tend to get frustrated when I see a cigar split between 2-star and 4-star reviews. Then I'll say something like "why in the **** do I bother with other people's reviews" and stay away for a month or two, until my curiosity gets the better of me. :-D
josie67 Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 www.top25cigar.com is one of my favorite cigar database sites.
Tampa1257 Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 » Another site I use for cigar reviews is www.top25cigar.com. After reviewing this site, I believe it to be more of a Ratings site and less of a Review site. While I don't mind a ratings site, what I personally look for is more descriptive opinions of the flavors and complexities. The short one line reviews leaves a LOT to be desired in my humble opinion. top25 tends to put more credence in the rating scale than in what the cigar actually tasted like. Too much subjectiveness in the ratings without any structure in evaluation to be of use to me to make a decision if I would enjoy the cigar or not. They sort of want to "Build you a watch, and not tell you the time" sort of thing.
shrink Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 I agree with you Chuck. The reviews at top25cigar are usually too brief to be meaningful, although some reviewers there, i.e. ElkTwin provide excellent evaluations. I prefer cigar review. El Presidente: I would recommend that the review section of FOH be modified so that reviews would be organized by specific vitola, i.e. Partagas Serie P No. 2, so that a single click would bring up all the reviews on that cigar, in order by date. Otherwise, it will be very difficult for anyone considering the purchase of a specific cigar to easily access the review database. Bet this would increase cigar sales. ;-)
