Birthday Box

My son was born 3 months ago and I’m looking to buy a half cab to smoke every year on his birthday. I’m looking for suggestion on some boxes that I should be looking out for that are smoking well now but also ages really well. I’m just unsure of what’s smoking well since it’s been tough to get CC in the US. There’s a lot I haven’t tried but I usually like medium to full cigars.

Can't go wrong with RASS. Smoke excellent young and only get better with age. Still some what reasonable pricing.

I did this when my son was born back in December 2018…I would keep your options open, source wisely, and see what you can find as I think there are very few cigars that can’t go a very long distance (25+ years easily) if stored in good/consistent conditions. 

Back when my son was born I managed to get a box of DIC 18 Coro, HU #2, and Dip #2…all cigars I would say have solid aging potential and that I like personally. However I pretty much grabbed what I could find and got pretty lucky. These days I would imagine could be even more challenging just given supply/prices. If I could be choosier I would say try to keep an eye out for prominentes for the special occasion size and tubos as it’s a more special format that will also help slow the hands of time down a bit.

Trying to find a good source with a decent price has been an issue, I’ve been primarily buying my CC on 24:24 but it’s been tough lately. Everywhere else the prices are way too high. 

I was looking at getting some Partagas Lusitanias but trying to get those is like finding a needle in a haystack. I just need to be patient or find a good source that has.

Congratulations on the birth of your son. If you want a specific month/year cigar box, concentrate on just that. You already have a tough task.

RASS is a great choice. PLPC would age well, but might not be "flashy" enough for a celebration. 

And if you can find them, a cab of Lusis would be a great investment.

My strategy for 24:24 would be any box that pops up with the right Month/Year, I would try to get the email off asap and grab it. You’re in the right window for getting a few good looks at boxes from his birth month, so just stay on it. You may have another shot on Bond Roberts as well in a bit of time. Cheers!

I'm confused...is OP looking for a box with the month/year of the birth? Or just a box to smoke down each year as the birthday rolls around?

Reading it again, it looks like any old box he's looking for, but what's the fun in that? Where's pomp and circumstance with that? I assumed he wanted one to match the month and year of his son.

Gotta do the actual month/year I think if you can find it. If not, Cohiba Esplendidos...you’ll earn them!

I probably should’ve been more specific in my post. I’m looking for a box with the month/year and that’s a celebratory stick.

Was thinking a 50 cab if just a special box without the specific date. I know he plans one a year, but at some point, he may want a cigar from the cab out of cadence.

You’re probably right, a 50 cab might be the best choice. I’ll most likely have more than one of these cigars a year.

Not sure about anyone else, but I have yet to see any 2026 box codes. With the situation on the ground being what it is in Cuba, I'm sure 2026 production has been VERY low.
