Beneath the Band: Cohiba Siglo III

This series to explore whether a particular cigar is humidor worthy. Cost these days is an issue for many so let's see if we can highlight some absolute standouts. This should particularly assist those new to the cigar world.  

To be fair, most of the cigars we have featured to date have scored exceptionally well. Surprisingly well!

Singer Sade's "Smooth Operator" comes to mind when I think of the Cohiba Siglo III While it is often grouped with Lonsdales, it is technically a Corona Grande..that 10mm makes all the difference. 

What a cigar. Perhaps the greatest 42 ring gauge smoking experience in the world today. Big call I know but tell me who knocks it off the top spot? 

Silky smooth, complex, rich, nuanced, honey - citrus goodness. The Siglo III has it all and these days comes a price to match.

I agree. That extra 10 mm in this Corona grandes-sized cigar makes a world of difference. For me, the Cohiba Siglo III really starts to come into it's own at the 7 to 10 year mark. Honestly, I can't remember the last time I had one and I felt disappointed.

I have a younger box, have smoked a few, and thought they were quite good but left something to be desired. 

How would you describe the change when they come alive with that age?

Up there with my favorite Cohiba. I love this stick and age only does wonders for them. It may be one that I end up springing for another box when I'm down to my last five or so.

Awesome smoke, one of my favorites and perhaps my actual favorite from Cohiba, along with Lancero and CCE.

I've had Monte 1s that would give it a good run. They are completely different but equally satisfying in my book.

I think that the Monte 1 and the QD Coronas Claro are the only other cigars in the 42 gauge that could challenge in sheer excellence when "on". Mind you, the Cohiba Siglo III would need to be near its best to stave off the challenge. 

I still feel a great Siglo III has a few more gears.

Ok, Sig III sounds like a good fit tonight. 2021 version is pretty damn good. It’s got a little bite, a lot of barnyard, and a little sweet. Yum

After the Sig V, it's my second favorite of this series. (Value? Well, that's subjective. It's worth being acquainted with at the very least.)

This is the bait I was snagged on - perfection in a cigar. It can't be faulted for it's pricing, but it's unobtanium for most.

When young, one is more liable to encounter stronger coffee notes in this cigar. Over the long-term those coffee notes tend to recede and the cigar builds in cream texture, which makes a nice interplay with the grass/hay and citrus.

Yes, these would be my favourite two of the Siglo line too. (Although, I would have the Cohiba Siglo III as my first preference and the Siglo V as my second.)

I am looking for this answer as well, I have had some young III, and they were not to the same standard as a youngish CoRo that I was expecting.
