Oh, snap! I've been avoiding it thinking it is schlock. Sounds like a worthy watch, then. Now, what cigar to smoke with it... That Spada Gorda seems reasonable, with its middle finger logo and all 😂

It really is. Great cast and performances, too. Especially Matthew Goode as Bob Evans. Amazing job.

These are two of my favorite films, so it was a "don't make me choose" vote.

Godfather II is the better film IMO because it does an excellent job of presenting the backstory and the way it successfully employs a flashback style. Plus it contains one of my favorite quotes "in Sicily, Women are more dangerous than shotguns". This resonates with me because my wife is Italian.

@JohnS, Rotten Tomatoes agrees with you, Infinitesimally, being the exact word.

Having said that.. I prefer Part II, by a similarly infinitesimal margin.

Also, FWIW.. I find this rating to be overly generous. 🫠

It's not what it used to be, but I still think it has some value.

If:

Tomatometer is low, Popcornmeter is high = Entertaining movie, always a good time

Tomatometer is high, Popcornmeter is high = Elite film

Tomatometer is high, Popcornmeter is low = Avoid with rare exceptions. Usually leans heavy agenda the critic side favours, artsy fartsy, etc

Tomatometer is low, Popcornmeter is low = SKIP

Low ~ <50%

High ~ >85%

Very difficult choice as both movies compliment each other more than any other prequel and sequel. And I learned just about a year ago that "The Godfather Part 2" was really the first sequel in the US that used " Part 2" in its title. Francis Ford Coppola was kind of credited for that and was something he borrowed from Russian cinema. It became a trend thereafter as we know.

But I guess if I was on a desert island, if I had to choose, I would go with Godfather one. 👍

You nailed the exact way my wife and I see it. Honestly, the tomato high, popcorn low movies are nearly universally insufferable.
