Yigal Posted Thursday at 09:15 PM Posted Thursday at 09:15 PM Hi everyone, I’m looking for some informed opinions on a CoRo I recently traded for. I didn’t purchase it myself. My friend picked it up as a single from his local liquor store that had a box on hand. I’m just curious about its authenticity before considering going back for more. I should mention upfront that I’m not an expert on Cohiba's or bands, and I don't have the box code or stamp info, so I’m hoping for guidance from those with more experience. What caught my attention wasn’t the cigar itself but the price my friend paid. It seemed noticeably low for a genuine Robusto, which leaves two possibilities: either the shop doesn’t realize what they have, or it’s not authentic. I apologize if this feels like a repeated question and I know similar threads pop up often, but I’d really appreciate your thoughts. I’ve attached photos of the band, cap, foot, and embossing for reference. I’m not looking to call out the store, just trying to gauge whether it’s worth pursuing more from them. Thanks in advance for the insight. 1
Chibearsv Posted Thursday at 09:49 PM Posted Thursday at 09:49 PM Local liquor store has a box of CoRo laying around eh? Fugazzi 101 class easily Red Flags the band as well. No Bueno. 3
Gubbins Posted Thursday at 09:55 PM Posted Thursday at 09:55 PM No triple cap and grossly under filled. And that’s before you start on the numerous problems with the band, price, and vendor. 1
Yigal Posted Thursday at 09:56 PM Author Posted Thursday at 09:56 PM If I didn’t suspect a red flag, I wouldn’t be asking. I’m not looking for general “fake” warnings as I want to understand what specifically seems off. The band’s font, embossing, or colors? Construction, cap, or foot details? Other authenticity cues you notice? Any detailed feedback would be hugely appreciated so I can learn what to look for in the future.
NYGuido Posted Thursday at 10:21 PM Posted Thursday at 10:21 PM Comma between Habana and Cuba shouldn’t be centered. The white outline of the Taino head should be crisp and consistent on the whole thing. This isn’t. It should have a triple cap. It doesn’t. That’s my quick read. 1
Allroz Posted Thursday at 10:48 PM Posted Thursday at 10:48 PM Sorry my friend, these are certainly fake.
qs210 Posted Thursday at 11:02 PM Posted Thursday at 11:02 PM Definitely fake. The comma is an immediate identifier(amongst other incorrect details). It is centered on most fakes I've seen floating around lately. 1
Nevrknow Posted Thursday at 11:15 PM Posted Thursday at 11:15 PM You had me at below retail for a genuine Coro. Ended all doubts right there. UNLESS you are trading with a BOTL for an older one, but trading with true brothers you're trading cigars, not monetary value. Different scenario entirely. On the other hand, if you have guts, smoke the damn thing. You might like it after all. Then go dicker on the price for the fake. Who knows? You're in LA and an operating liquor store just happened to have a box. Have to admit, that one made me chuckle out loud. 2
zacca Posted yesterday at 12:41 AM Posted yesterday at 12:41 AM Not even close. They’re bad fakes. In the future, save yourself the hassle of taking pics and asking if you see it’s significantly below market. Nobody gets “deals”.
Ford2112 Posted yesterday at 04:03 AM Posted yesterday at 04:03 AM Plus those cigars look like ass. 1
