A demonstrable comparison. Normally, a Room101 7 by 70 cigar looks enormous. Not here. When Mottola holds it up against C.L.E.’s April Fool’s, it almost looks small.

I believe what has driven this is that t's easier to sell what a customer comes in to buy than to educate and empower like a true tobacconist would.  And so what you have is the continuous creep of ring gauge because the average consumer only sees the value in getting a larger cigar for a $1 more.

I will freely admit I absolutely enjoy the JdN Magnum. It is a 6x60 with a 109 type head. Certainly not an every day cigar, but stupendous in its own way.

I'm more of a 44-54 RG guy in general, but as was stated in the article, manufacturers go where the market takes them. Are these larger RG cigars “worse” than what is smoked by members here on a daily basis? Not sure, but I’ve always thought, talked about, and told people to smoke what they like, not what someone like me wants to “educate” them about. I’ve more than 30 years of smoking cigars, and if you had to listen to me, based on my experience, I’d say smoking a cigar isn’t about smoking “dessert;” that’s what you have after dinner and before you smoke a cigar. So, if you want it to be a 70 RG cigar while I smoke my 47 RG Churchill, I’d say let me get the lighter for you and let’s enjoy our experience.

I’m a proud member of the PKG though so what do I know? 🙂

RG in the 40's are the sweet spot for me, super 30's and 50/52 are prim as well. Anything over 52 and I give a skeptical eye. Larger ring gauge just isn't quite my thing.

Could it be a coincidence that bigger, more fully engorged cigars are arriving at the same time as new, nationalist movements are promising to re-masculinize culture after its corruption by feminists, vegetarians, and “the gays?” 🤔

Anything bigger than a Robusto is normally a bit hard to get the ol’ jaw around, if you ask me, but who am I to judge?
