Ken Gargett Posted February 12, 2005 Posted February 12, 2005 Name: Cohiba Sublime LE 2004. Tasting Notes - Had a tip from friends in Havana last year that the next LE release under the Cohiba brand would be something special so have been keen to try them. First impression on seeing these gorgeous cigars is a keen sense of anticipation, though they can seem a little intimidating. But do they ever live up to the hype. Thought that this was just a wonderful cigar with an almost textbook burn and a richness I can’t think of in any other cigar of late. There is a mix of spice, honey, coffee bean and vanilla. If one equates Cohiba with DRC then this might just be their ‘78 La Tache. As for a score, one wants to leave room for future improvement but I felt like I should calibrate everything else down a little. Have I got too excited with this or have others found these Sublimes just as thrilling? 97.
AG Posted February 12, 2005 Posted February 12, 2005 Ken, thanks for the review. I've got a couple of these that I'm just waiting to smoke, but I'm "trying" to let them sleep for a while in the humidor, but they just keep calling me to smoke them. And a BIG THANKS goes out to The FIRST LADY! Adam
Tampa1257 Posted February 12, 2005 Posted February 12, 2005 I have only had the opportunity to smoke a single example of the 2004 Cohiba Sublime, but to sum the experience up in a single word would be WOW! This vitola certainly lives up to the hype! Delicious flavors, excellent burn and complexities, which surprised me for such a young Habanos. Age on these bad boys is going to make these a treasure in a few years IMHO. Tampa
HawaiiBill Posted February 13, 2005 Posted February 13, 2005 I have had one sitting in my humidor for a few months. I am one of the guys who has a REALLY hard time smoking something this special when it is the only I have. I guess its one of the few times I actually exercise self control! I must say this keeps getting more and more difficult though. I have heard nothing but great review of this cigar! PLUS- they are still young! OMG.......I heard many say the Cohiba dc EL may evolve into the Dunhill/Davidoff type classic. It sounds like the Sublime will do the same, if not better?!!!..........cool!
CastleCrest Posted February 13, 2005 Posted February 13, 2005 Do I even need to add anything? A great smoke - the draw was Sublime, the smoke tatsed Sublime! It is one of the best smokes I've had in a long time! I can only imagine what a few years will do to take this to a 99! CC

At a couple points, I caught glimpses of that nice Cohiba flavor, but mostly it was a tiresome smoke. I'll confess to not being enthusiastic about either ELs or very fat cigars, but I prefer both Siglo VIs and DC ELs.
First Lady Posted February 17, 2005 Posted February 17, 2005 To those who are interested we should be getting a shipment in of the Cohiba Sublimes by the end of the month or beginning of March. I will make a post on their arrival. The first shipment didn't even have a chance to make an apprearance on our shelves. Popular babies :-D The First Lady
HawaiiBill Posted February 18, 2005 Posted February 18, 2005 Thats good news First lady! I would love to get a few this time around. LMK if we need to put our names on a list or reserve them somehow?

rspdiver Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 Lisa, are you getting plenty in? I would like to at least pick up some singles with my next order with y'all. :-)
AG Posted February 21, 2005 Posted February 21, 2005 Yesterday, I was in a smoke shop in Windsor, Canada and the owner was very happy to find out that he was getting in 1 box of these next week! He was practically jumping up and down over this score, since he didn't know if he would be able to get a 2nd one. It just goes to show you how limited these smokes are.
First Lady Posted February 22, 2005 Posted February 22, 2005 I should have plenty in soon. E-mail at [email protected] and I will get all you details TFL
Ken Gargett Posted March 2, 2005 Author Posted March 2, 2005 i see we have one dissenter amongst us as to the quality of these. i have to say that i tried another when in cuba. actually, it was my last cigar on the island on our final evening, smoked in the grounds of the hotel nacional overlooking the ocean, old havana and the preparations on the malecon for that night's carnavale. if ever the atmosphere was going to add to the occasion, this had to be it. i really enjoyed it but there was a nagging doubt with this one and the reason was simply that the draw was soooo tough. everything else was in place but the eye-popping draw was a negative. i do, however, completely agree with everyone who has suggested that these need time. hopefully, then they will be even more spectacular. i brought back as many as i could without causing the bank manager to meltdown and i don't plan on touching any of them for several years (of course, things don't always go to plan). they are also a lesson for visiting havana - if you are coming for something like the festival or november's partagas dinner then try and get in as many days before the event as possible. when we arrived a week before the festival, most stores had reasonable stocks of sublimes. by a day or two before the festival kicked off, they were not to be found. and this applied to all the top cigars. most stores looked more like looting victims than humidors. kbg
Bartolomeo Posted October 25, 2009 Posted October 25, 2009 Cohiba Sublime EL GEP DIC 04 Setting: New Orleans Sitting on deck of New Orleans hotel overlooking Decatur street traffic below me, wanted to save this for a special occasion and figured this was as good as any, reminds me why NO is one of my favorite cities to visit Pre draw was aged, sweet tobacco with a hint of cedar Cap and construction was flawless, wrapper was Maduro colored Total smoking time was 117 mins Flavors included were cocoa, dry leather, coffee, earthy notes, cinnamon Mild-Med start with cigar picking up speed the 2/3, finishing as med-full Dry, sweet creme on initial puff with some White pepper Very smooth w/ typical Cuban draw Complex in flavors and profile Grassiness and nuts in 2/3 started to show their head Very clean burn, not a lot of after taste 9.3/10 Overall a great cigar and I would highly recommend everyone try at least one in their lifetime My problem is, I need more so if you want to sell me a couple of singles, please PM me Bart
