This series seeks to explore whether a particular cigar is humidor worthy.:cigar:

Cost these days is an issue for many so let's see if we can highlight some absolute standouts.  This should particularly assist those new to the cigar world.

To be fair, most of the cigars we have featured to date have scored exceptionally well. Surprisingly well!

Scoring is: 1-3 (Poor)   4-6 (Average to good)   7-10  (very good to excellent)  Use the Poll.

You are more than free to comment away ;)

Today: Montecristo Petit Number 2

You know what I love about this cigar? I love it's flavour. Medium and building, rich Monte profile. Take a standard Montecristo Number 2 and roid it up.  It took me a long time to get enamoured with the size 4.7-inch (120mm) X 52. To be honest I still don't get it. 9 times out of 10 I will pull a Robusto or Beli. Yet it is a very popular format and given I am nothing if not corporate "malleable" (insert "sellout"), I am happy to play along! :D

However what does yank my chain is the price.  Selling what is in reality an oversized butt plug (albeit a very good one) for north of $25 USD takes some cojones.

Very good cigar low on value. Go and buy yourself a MOFOH Corta Suave Petit Piraminde (5 1/2 140mm x52) for an equivalent smoking utility  experience for 40% of the price. ;)

Your thoughts on the Montecristo Petit Number 2

Outside of the poll, which do you prefer and why? Let us know in this thread

I am reasonably confident that this cigar, like most others, will taste better if taken orally. This said, far be it from me to judge how other BOTL choose to enjoy theirs!

Seriously, while I love the Monte #2, I've never actually tried a petit. I always figured that for the price point I might as well have the full Monte, pun intended. Are they the same blend, just shorter? Same essential smoking experience?

My palate only. The Petit Number 2 is the superior blend. One to two levels up in body over a Monte 2. Both excellent cigars.

I think the same way with a Partagas Serie D 6 and a D4. D6 is the preferred blend (my palate). Both excellent cigars.

I’ve only smoked two Petit No.2s. I couldn’t really do the poll, but both examples were excellent. I feel like I need a couple boxes.

I took the meaning of this differently than intended on my first read - been a long day.

This cigar was my introduction to the Monte marca. The first stick I had had this choco, honeycomb, slight pepper thing going on that got me hooked. This stick is a keeper for me. Always in rotation. Went deep on a few boxes earlier this year.

I have a box of ten about 2-3 years old but still haven't tried one yet...lol. I think i was waiting to open them /gonna do a review. Rob's feedback is promising & makes me want to try one soon.

This one has escaped my humidor and flame so far. I’ll have to remedy this at some point as I love its big brother. Like Pres I mostly haven’t been interested in the newer petit offerings from Habanos. Always prefer longer sticks with 7" plus being my preference.

Just like many of you above, I must have smoked only a couple of those and I quite liked them but they're absolutely nowhere to be found on my radar.

Never had one. Smaller cigars not really on my radar. Maybe that's been a mistake.

I’ve only had them from a three pack years ago. I preferred them to the full size but neither is my cup of tea compared to other Montes.

As someone who loves the Monte 2 but doesn’t always have time for the long format, I get this cigar. The flavors are definitely there. I would say the smoking time is similar to a robusto. My 2023 box has been smoking very well so far.

Nailed it: The PN2 has a more consolidated  and rich flavor profile than its M2 big brother. I love the length/time commitment that the Petit No.2 offers and the explosion of creamy chocolate and coffee with hints of unoffensive pepper and maybe a touch of bread. I have 2 boxes of 10 left which I smoke sparingly. $$

Same for me. I have several boxes of both. I reach for whichever I have time for.

Nice to see the PN2 getting love. Thought I was an outlier. I’ve got one in the dry box to try this weekend; it’s an Oct ‘24, so we’ll see how it’s coming along. I’m partial to doing a comparison: I have a Monte PN2 November 22 box vs one of my more recent ‘24 boxes. I smoked a ‘22 back in June that seems to have lost some steam flavor-wise.

Had a handful years ago but golly, I am smoking a Corta Suave right now and it’s a tasty stick. Different profiles but I am stoked the Corta Suaves can be smoked at under $10 a stick. Makes it easy to go this route.
