So plume we are told is a good thing however an employee of the Dominique London Cgars team has admitted in their latest blog post they had to spend some time de-plooming the Cuban cigars. If plume was a good thing like retailers make out, then surely they wouldn’t have to de-ploom, they would sell as they are.

Plume certainly IS mold, no question about that. This said, not all molds are toxic and some have a significantly beneficial effect on the taste and texture of desirable food and drink. Anecdotally, a lot of cigar smokers say that its appearance heralds positive taste changes. I would generally agree, though of course this may only be true for specific strains at a certain stage of their life cycle, which is regulated by temperature and humidity. Whether the positive taste and aroma changes are a side effect of the same conditions encouraging that growth or whether they are a direct result of fungal activity I do not know.

It is important to note that even with beneficial mold strains used on purpose to make things tastier, they have distinctly different life stages dependent on growth medium and extant conditions (temp and humidity). Some of those life stages are delicious and some are disgusting (eg, fuzzy white koji that is floral and sweet vs. the bitter green spored reproductive form of koji). Some of these life stages allow for reproduction or the formation of more visible structures. It gets a bit complicated. Additionally the breakdown processes in their growth medium initiated by some fungi can offer a more fertile ground for bacteria, which may not be nearly as friendly to our senses or even to our health.

Mold and fungi are *complicated*. I don't think there are any cut and dried simple answers. I do think that anecdotally there is a good body of evidence that white "plume" (mold) in the commonly seen dry powdery dotted appearance on cigars is not harmful to human health when smoked, and also that if it is allowed to significantly reproduce and invade more of the growth medium, it can have a negative effect. The jury is still out on whether the dry form of the most common strain(s) may actually have a positive effect on the sensory assessment of otherwise identical cigars. I am tentatively inclined to say that I think it just might; my own very small scale observations have so far supported this.

I am so bored with Plume. Good to see retailers taking to vacuuming it each morning.

I am bloody well inspired however by this Blog!!!!!!!

Honestly I thought I was reading a children's book.

"His name is Marcus and Thursday was his first day! The first day is usually not that exciting as it is a lot of paperwork but then you are free to learn about cigars! Marcus joined me after lunch and I gave him a tour of both humidors to give him an overview of all the cigars! He is full of so much positive energy, it’s unbelievable!"

Jesus H Christ. I want to go and work at Cigarsltd UK!!!!

WTF?  Marcus gets time off for lunch?   What sort of glorified Santa's workshop/commie bullshit is Cigars ltd/DL running here?

In my office, first up in the morning, Di and Lisa kick in the door and tell all and sundry to f*** off until they have their first coffee.

In my experience, should "Marcus be invited to join me after lunch".....it would be solely to terminate his employment.

So much to learn! I am booking a ticket to London!    :lol3:

Philistines all of you. What you lot need rather, is some lessons in civility. Send the troops! Oh...tea time you say?

Bollocks. Send Kirby then.

Last weekend I spent a lot longer than I wanted "de-plooming" my toilet.

I mean, I know you can make "prison hooch" liquor fermented in a toilet, so maybe you can make a "prison humidor" too? Can't wait for your tasting notes! 😁

Rob are you hiring? I’m inspired to come down to upside down land and bring positivity, while I tour your humidors and learn about the cigar trade in the Asia Pacific region! Once I get adjusted to the time zone, I promise I’ll be on time each day!

Pfff…those robots can’t wipe off plume though. They haven’t figured out the dexterity with the hands so they’re going to lead to a lot of breakage.

You need someone who can take care of this while happily whistling show tunes around the office, just like at Cigars LTD UK!
