By Daily Freeman - UPDATED: July 25, 2025 at 10:00 AM EDT

LAGRANGE, N.Y. — A Highland man and two Yonkers residents were arrested in connection with a kidnapping and assault at a Dutchess County cigar shop, state police said.

Jamal Maher, 20, of Highland; Mahamed Ali, 21, and Tareq Ali, 20, both of Yonkers, were arraigned in LaGrange Town Court and sent to Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $250,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Tuesday July 29.

All three are charged with the felonies of kidnapping, conspiracy and unlawful imprisonment, and misdemeanor assault.

At about 2:35 p.m. Thursday, July 24, state police at Poughkeepsie were dispatched by Dutchess County 911 to the The Ambassador Cigar Shop at 1214 state Route 55 for a reported disturbance.

Upon arrival, troopers found a 31-year-old male victim ziptied with “visible facial injuries,” police said.  Also present were Maher, Mahamed Ali and Tareq Ali, who claimed to be employees of the smoke shop, police said.

The Troop K Bureau of Criminal Investigation determined that the suspects and the victim were known to one another prior to the incident and that a fight earlier in the day in Yonkers had escalated before continuing in LaGrange, according to a press release.

State police said there is no threat to the public and the investigation remains ongoing.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the state police Bureau of Criminal Investigation at (845) 677-7379.

My stories would be a little different.

" A patron at a cigar lounge called for the coroner to come pick up 3 bodies who apparently died of lead poisoning."

Just sayin.....😂
