Quick question. Did Habanos ever do a collaboration with Ferrari?

I was chatting with a cigar mate on Thursday who was adamant that they had, but could not recall the exact item they collaborated on. I have no recollection of any collaboration but then again, not recalling is becoming quite normal.

Could this be it? If so, I wonder if it was even an authentic piece.

product description:

"Cohiba has attained a “cult” status in the flagship brand of the Cuban cigar industry. The brand has now partnered with Ferrari to let its cigar lovers enjoy a puff even in the car with an innovative and exclusive humidor in the car. The Cohiba in-car humidifier looks totally desirable with a modern finish and tire-like side panels, which also gives it rubber protection to make it rugged. The unit requires no installation and has been tested on the Ferrari F430 and 599 GTB.

Its sides are styled as tires and made of rubber. Its drawer mechanism is operated by a button and holds a humidification area within its cedar interior. It is designed to Velcro to the floor of your car’s trunk and hold 12 large Cohibas secures during sporty driving.

The Cohiba Car Edition includes an external hygrometer and a metal two cigar carrying case for those times you need to go extremely portable."

It looks terrible - maybe he saw this in passing somewhere online and thought it was real?

Looking terrible indeed, but they had been an official release, presented at the Festival del Habano 2010. Not directly a release by HSA as it seems, but done under license by a company called ‘Coiba’ (Comercial Iberoamericana). You can find them mentioned for instance in Rius’ ‘Gran Libro’. Officially named the “Cohiba Car Edition” the release didn’t make any direct reference to Ferrari or any other car brand. Ferrari is only mentioned in some press releases, in that said humidors “…had been tested on ….”. (which appears more like a joke) No official branding to be found on the humis or on their packaging other than Cohiba. Some retailers promoted them as “Ferrari humidors” whereas some simply did so as “car humidors”. (the latter is the way it’s also done by Adriano Rius - “… Humidor de lujo para automóviles…”)

So, Rob, your mate was right there, but at the same time wrong. 😆

I've seen this before. I could swear there was a Lamborghini variant as well.  Looks like something that would have been sold on Ali Express. (Not there now)

Yes, there had been one, indeed. But not related to the release mentioned above, and not done in conjunction with Habanos. If you mean this one (some variants), this has been made by Tonino Lamborghini, maker of cigar accessories (I got lighters from them), and not any further related to the automobile brand other than that its founder is the son of Ferruccio.

But true, yeah, I also still have the feeling - in the back of my mind (far back 😄) - that I’ve seen a true, quite valuable, humidor from a collaboration between Habanos and some luxury car brand. But for the life of me can’t recall where I’ve seen it. There’s even a faint image in my mind’s eye.

Perhaps Alex @ATGroom is able to comment.

A friend of mine who is a Ferrari fan showed me pics of races in the 50's down the Malecon in Havana. It was referred to as the Havana Grand Prix. Seems like they did it a few times a year. Also, on one of my 12 hour charter delays I had a conversation with a Car & Driver test driver. He was there with other press from the automobile world and told me he got a chance to see 2 Ferraris in Havana that were garaged. He also said they were in mint shape and didn't have Lada or Peugeot parts mixed in. I know back in the day boxes were easily made for royalty or events, is it possible that Ferrari had some boxes made for one of those races? John

I found out about that search for old Cuban ads and came across this. And IIRC, someone may have posted his here not too long ago. Would love an original poster of this.

In October, I stayed in a wonderful Havana boutique hotel located in Vedado called “Claxon” where the theme is based around grand prix and racing. This poster is hanging on the wall in the dining area, as seen below. If you're into this kind of art, it's definitely worth paging through these photos and, if you're going to Havana, checking this hotel out.

I did see this humidor all over eBay at one point.

Always wanted to own a Chrysler Crossfire because you could add on a special humidor that was fit to the center console straight from the factory. Just too tiny of a car for me to fit.

I think it would be nice if car manufacturers or some 3rd party would make custom fit humidors for the center console/glovebox. Heat is obviously a big issue.

In other automotive references, the PL Robusto Superior from Andorra in 2009 (released in 2011) was a pretty clear ripoff homage of the Audi RS line.

RM Auctions is a good source if you want an original of this or similar. Great colors that pop and a solid investment poster.
