ptsmith109 Posted May 30 Posted May 30 Hello all - got set up with a couple new tupperware containers to hold boxes of my CCs. My digital hygrometer is showing anywhere between a 75-77% RH on a 69% pack. (For comparison's sake, my RH in the room is about 55%) I got some Integra Boost packs when I ordered a humidor from Case Excellence, and I switched over to Valet tonight. Do I just need to be Boveda or bust? Is there something else I'm needing to do?
Popular Post Çnote Posted May 30 Popular Post Posted May 30 I have found that you need much less Boveda than you would think with properly sealed Tupperware. I would hasten to guess you just have that much humidity in system. More cigars is often the answer, can't possibly have enough really. 6
sv_ontour Posted May 30 Posted May 30 Welcome and plenty of great advice on here 1. Calibrate your hygros, I recently changed over and tried a few different types from data loggers to cheap amazon ones. I should have just read the info here and gone with the Govee’s, they are great. 2. Tuppadores tend to lose a lot less moisture so I find they require a lot less maintenance. Can’t comment on boveda, I have used HCM beads for the last ten plus years and can’t fault them. 3. Buy a good quality cooler to start with that has a good seal, it will save you time and money over the long run. Adding cedar as others have mentioned is also good to help keep RH stable. 4. Temperature matters - what are the current temps?

Calibrate them when received and go from there. (I've always calibrated using a ziplock baggie, a bottle cap, distilled H2O, and table salt. Make a salt slurry with the salt and water inside the bottle cap, place the cap and hygro in a sealed baggie, wait 24hours and adjust to 75 % rH *could be remembering the wrong set point, but if you google 'salt method hygrometer calibration' you'll find all you need to know. Basically anything that has a complete waterproof seal will read higher than the boveda package states. I use 62s% in all my tuppers and they run about 65-67% depending on temp and time of year.
ptsmith109 Posted June 2 Author Posted June 2 Did you calibrate your hygrometer?I have not, however, they are all digital. Do digital hygrometers need to be calibrated as well?Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Nevrknow Posted June 2 Posted June 2 Are you using true Tupperware? If so, I have not found those very reliable when I first started. Try some Rubbermaid Brilliance containers. They actually have a seal in the lid. I have some Cohibas, Lusis and some Nudies in mine with Boveda. Nailed 65% (using Govees) from the get go and have never wavered. This advice of course is worth what you just paid for it. 😂 1
Ford2112 Posted June 8 Posted June 8 Get a food grade sealed storage box. They have them at the big box stores like Home Depot. Put heartfelt beads and boxed and a little hygrometer. They are really easy. Temp is the variable there. I find its easy to keep the rh steady in these.
