Cigars you come across that unexpectedly blow you away?

I am tapping away on my laptop and pulled out of my humidor a cigar that was gifted to me.

I have no idea what it it. It is a Petit Corona. The band is a little muted and my eyesight is not that great.

What is this cigar people? It is smoking a solid 93. I took the photo early but it has held up throughout.

This is what I found Warped Don Reynaldo Warped Don Reynaldo cigar is a medium body smoke that is crafted with aged Dominican and Nicaraguan tobaccos at the famed El Titan de Bronze factory down in Miami. It uses a special, medium brown Corojo wrapper the burns perfectly down to the end. It produces wonderful notes of cocoa, caramel and cinnamon, along with an undertone of dark fruit and sweetness.

It was made to honor the owner's father. It should be the Corona de Luxe, a special release

I'd hasten to guess that's a 2018 rolled Regalos, not the Corona de Luxe.

@Çnote, that was an awesome cigar indeed. Thank you for reminding me of it!

I bought two of these last summer and tried the first a week later. My notes say, “Pretty good, kind of one-dimensional but done well for the most part. Maybe some age would do the second one well.” So aging remains the plan for the other 👍

Hamlet Lanceros.

Well aged Trinidad Fundadores

H Upmann Magnum 46 (always in my humidor, but never really "hungry" to intentionally get one out and smoke it.  Always one of those cigars that I just stumble across, and think, "oh hey, maybe I'll have one of these", and then almost always think, about halfway into the stick, "this is a GREAT cigar, why the hell don't I smoke more of these?!?!?!"

Smoked a Vegueros Marevas from ‘02 that was stellar. One of the best cigars in recent memory. Now I like Vegueros. Always considered them the poor man’s Cohiba. But this one was outstanding.

The original Warped Don Reynaldo release back in 2014 were easy candidates for the NCC cigar hall of fame.  I thought the El Oso Papa's were also adjacent.  Those were among the cigars that I went back to revisit leading up to my 50th birthday this year.  Some amazing blends coming out of Aganorsa back then.

You can add to those the original La Palina Goldie's.

That explains it

These would have been from that period.

These cigars called Byron/Atabey are really frickin' good!  I just stumbled upon them a few years back. Not cheap, but boy do they deliver!

I love the "seconds" from El Titan de Bronze... cheap, unbanded. You never really know what you are smoking and they range from good to exceptionnal. Only had one dud in 50+. They do roll for Warped. Smoked a lonsdale last weekend that was a solid 92.

I think all of those were made in El Titan de Bronce.

Yep! Cohiba M and the fancy NC Partagas de Bronce are from here as well. Great rollers and very low chances of a 'bad' blend.

You got it. About half or so of his production was coming out of El Titan back then, the other half out of Casa Fernandez / Aganorsa, Arguably the thing that made it special was the filler tobaccos that were coming from Casa Fernandez / Aganorsa.

It's also part of the reason Illusione cigars were so good for so long.

Ramon Allones Regional Alemania Sr Henry!

I was gifted a single cigar by a very nice German businessman I met while on travel in India. We bonded over our love of cigars and learned a lot about each other. It's always nice to see conversations transcend a very large age gap, stemming from the mutual hobby of cigars.

I ended up procuring a few boxes of these off BR, looking forward to cracking into them on many special days to come.

A few non CC brands that I have come across that I absolutely love are Principle Cigars, Warped and Gellis Family Cigars. I tend to smoke Havanas but I’m super impressed with the stuff coming out of Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic.

The Illusione H-Town lancero limited edition was a wonderful surprise - 93/94 points every time.

I was gifted one a while back as well. Very good cigar! One that blew me away was a Black Works Studio Killet Bee Shaolin. Wish they weren't a limited release.

Warped Saunter, Isla del Cocodrilo and La Colmena are in my top 5 for sure. All creations of Kyle Gellis, can't wait to see what he comes out with next.
