Massive hit in the hills of NC. Asheville and surrounding areas wiped out. I40 impassable beyond Black Mountain. I didn’t know that hurricane damage reached this far inland, as most of the time our power was out in Florida after the storm. Many killed in the flood waters …

No bueno.

Half of Chimney rock is gone. Not flooded. GONE. Helicopters flying in and out as we speak. Asheville, that entire area.

For those of us that don’t live in the area; everything West of Winston/Salem NC thru Knoxville TN is a flooded river bed.

Absolutley gutted by this. Spent much of my childhood going to Asheville/Black mountain/Chimney Rock on the weekends. Always considered it a second home.

We were extremely lucky just lots of downed branches & power out for a very short time. Augusta is an hour east of us and they got decimated. Most of our hotels are booked with Augusta residents and they are having to drive to our area to get gas & food. All of our stations were out of gas Friday, but thankfully were replenished quickly. Prayers for all those affected by Helene.

They are releasing 440,000 gallons a second into the French Broad River just up stream from Knoxville. They also issued a dam failure watch warning for the nearby Douglas dam. Also, a major part of I-40 collapsed from wash-out. Luckily, my hometown has not been hit with significant safety issues, but we definitely got a reminder of how powerful mother nature can be, especially when she's pummelling us with water. The river is flooded with debris and I imagine it will only get worse. Hope everyone is safe.
