Picked a dress box of RASS up last week from LDCH in Palermo.

Ive not tried one yet. I’m used to seeing RASS with a more lighter Colorado/Claro wrapper, with little oil or shine.

these look quite dark and oily.

not expecting much difference honestly, just wondering what peoples experiences are with darker RASS, and preferences on wrappers for specially selected (assuming good construction)

they are Partagas factory April 2024 I believe.

cheers! 👍

I think you will notice a significant difference. Particularly in body and flavour, sweetness and aroma. Congratulations on a beautiful looking box of cigars. Be sure to store them well, look after them and the Cuban Cigars will smile upon you. That I promise you. Enjoy 🌴😎

In my experience with RASS, which is one of my favorite Cubans of all time, the best ones have always had lighter brown wrappers with a more matte than glossy oil sheen. Dark wrappers that border on colorado maduro in color (in my opinion) tend to overpower the distinctive taste profile of RASS. I do have a BMS15 box with darker shaded wrappers, but I tend to grab them less and go for the AUM/RAE15 which were the lighter chestnut brown wrappers. But as in all things, wrapper preference is totally subjective, and many here tend to worship dark, oily wrappers. YMMV.

I concur - I’ve had a couple boxes of RASS that were lighter and more matte that were legendary. Not as much luck for the darker/oily, but that’s just my palate.

I will say I figured I was in the minority, so as always, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I agree. RASS is one of my favorite cigars. (PLPC is the other). I definitely prefer the lighter wrappers. The darker cigars are still excellent but if I have a choice I’ll always go with the lighter wrapper. I’m terrible at describing flavors but the lighter wrapper seems more balanced to me…tastier, if you will.

I like my RASS with a light wrapper, like a BRC. And I like them without a 10cm rope in it.

They placed a fuse in it in case of 4th of July!😁

IMHO, thickness of wrappers are more important than color. My best RASS have always been lighter brown shaded, so much so you can see a dappled look and almost look translucent through to the binder. Darker have not performed as well, just as @SCgarman mentioned YMMV.
