What transpired on the night was as follows:

  1. The host and the first guest both chose the Montecristo No.1, for reasons of sentimentality I would surmise.
  2. My son, George chose the Cohiba Siglo II.
  3. The next guests both chose a Punch Double Coronas each. I kindly 'warned' them that they will need around three hours each to finish this cigar as the first one from the box took me two-and-three quarter hours to smoke. This turned out to be correct.
  4. The next guest chose a Cohiba Siglo II.
  5. The last guest, who arrived a little later, chose the El Rey del Mundo Choix Supreme.
  6. My son, George had a Por Larranaga Petit Coronas as a second cigar. (Because one would gift their son a second choice, wouldn't they?)

So, in summary, there was one Por Larranaga Petit Coronas, one El Rey del Mundo Choix Supreme and both H.Upmann No.2s left over. Perhaps the H.Upmann No.2s being left was a surprise, but the choices here were possibly determined by sentimental reasons rather than knowledge of box codes from the distant past. All the cigar enthusiasts at this cigar get together were experienced cigar smokers, apart from my son.

If I had the choice out of all those cigars, I would choose the Cohiba Siglo II, aged eleven years, because I have sentimental memories of smoking this type of cigar in the past with Trevor Leask, the founder of Cuban Cigar Website. In fact, I brought the Cohiba Siglo II with me to smoke with Trevor a few days after this event. The poll attached to this thread, for example, amply shows that we collectively miss supplies of Punch Double Coronas since the price re-adjustments by Habanos S.A. in mid-2022.

What was the consensus on cigar performance?

The two guests that had a Montecristo No.1 were quite satisfied with it, as were the two guests that had the Punch Double Coronas. Both the Cohiba Siglo IIs were much appreciated but the El Rey del Mundo Choix Supreme had a tight draw (yeah, I know...it happens). My my son's Por Larranaga Petit Coronas wasn't as caramel-laden as he would have liked, but it was still fine.

Correction: senility, not sentimentality.

Quite shocked at this truthfully.

The monte 1 would've been my second choice but I can understand the siglo II, as that old band allure would certainly draw you in.

I think you hit the nail on the head here. We're all missing those days.

Fun social experiment. Thanks John.
