Popular Post Uwiik Posted April 7, 2024 Popular Post Posted April 7, 2024 I have quite a collection of cigars inside my walk in humidor. The temperature is rock solid stable around 19.5C throughout but the humidity had huge discrepancies between the top and mid-bottom rack before I run any fan. The top is around 62.5 RH while the mid-bottom around 66 and as a result I often get too wet/bad burn cigars whenever I take a cigar from the mid-bottom racks, with my growing experience I know for a fact that the bad burns came from too high a humidity, not from bad rolling. Around 8 weeks ago I installed a 16” oscillating fan set at the lowest power blowing onto the racks. With the fan blowing now, the RH is a lot more uniform with the top racks staying around 62.5 and the bottom racks staying around 63.5. After 6 weeks, I began to notice a better burn regardless of where I took the cigar from. However, now I am paranoid that the constantly blowing fan will affect the flavor of the cigar because with the amount I already possess I know that my cigars will be sitting there for years with wind blowing constantly onto the boxes. Is there any reason for my worry? Picture for reference (and showing off 😜) Please disregard the RH reading on the pictures, RH drops like a rock every time I open the WIH because the ambient room is at 50. 14
ShaazK Posted April 7, 2024 Posted April 7, 2024 Beautiful collection! Not sure about the effect of the direct wind on your stash, but why not point the fan away from them, directly towards the ceiling, or even on a timer for a few minutes each hour? That should create sufficient airflow to prevent RH “dead spots” I would think? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 1 1
Uwiik Posted April 7, 2024 Author Posted April 7, 2024 Thank you, my wife doesn’t think so, 15 minutes ago she just gave me a lecture about my spending on cigars and Japanese whiskey, telling me how many kitchen appliances she can get with the money 😂 Thanks for the advice, in fact I just did it, laid my fan in the floor directing diagonally onto the ceiling. I will wait for the RH to stabilize and reassess from there. Again thanks!! 1
BrightonCorgi Posted April 7, 2024 Posted April 7, 2024 Put the fan on a timer to on once every other hour for a minute or two.
Uwiik Posted April 7, 2024 Author Posted April 7, 2024 I ended up just redirecting the fan and now it’s a lot better. I modified the oscillating fan so it sits a lot lower right on the corner below the cigar racks, pointed it away from the racks towards the door, blowing at max power so there is plenty of air movement everywhere inside the room but nothing hitting directly onto the boxes and now RH is behaving much normally, i.e. lower rack seems to have slightly overall lower RH and much better overall uniformity than before, looking a lot neater too. I think in the end it will stabilize nicely without fear of direct wind onto the cigar boxes. Did some arrangements to make everything look tidier to accommodate quite a few new cigars from today’s shopping. 4

El Presidente Posted April 7, 2024 Posted April 7, 2024 Lovely collection You don't have a lot to worry about. If it was my humidor, I would point the fan at the floor. 1 1
rascalmonkey Posted April 7, 2024 Posted April 7, 2024 When I see a collection like this it makes me feel good about myself = I don't have a cigar problem 😂 3
BossHogg Posted April 8, 2024 Posted April 8, 2024 Nice collection! I agree with the rest. Face the fan away from the boxes and put it on a timer👍 1
Marco_011t556 Posted April 8, 2024 Posted April 8, 2024 Very nice collection! Maybe better not to blow directly to the box? Otherwise might be too dry and losing flavour 1

Thanks for the compliments, I am sure many here possesses way more comprehensive collection than me, but it is nice to know that mine is pretty good 🙏. My logic told me I don’t have to worry about the wind because there are many folks here who added multiple fans into their electric humidor with no negative effect, I suppose the wind effect is the same inside these modified electric humidors, but off course my paranoia always get the best of me. Nothing in vain anyway, now it is way nicer not to have a big fan blocking my way in and having much more uniform climate with the latest redirecting of the fan. I will try directing the fan to the floor today just for the sake of curiosity, thanks for the idea!!. Turned out my method worked really well and I get almost dead even humidity throughout, 63.5 average being the lowest on the lower rack and 64.0 average being the highest on the highest rack. I did tweak my humidity controller 0.5% higher last night to anticipate for/if any downwards trend, I will re tweak again for average of 62.5 or 63 throughout. On the other hand, I just tried my first ever 2016 Trinidad Fundadores. Suffice to say it just made my day brighter…Best Monday ever for welcoming 10 days Muslim holiday starting today in my country. 😁 10
