For some reason, in the last 10 years plus, people got fascinated with bigger, bolder and stronger whether it is bourbon, cigars or wines.  Nothing wrong with different experiences but I find the DCs especially the Hoyos getting a really bad reputation for lacking taste, complexity and flavor.  I believe they are one of the best Cigars available.  For example, I find that Cohibas are the best constructed non tasty cigars. Flavor and complexity doesn’t mean strong and bold.  I even find young Hoyos DC to be good.  I wouldn’t be surprised to start seeing 60 gage cigars and more soon.  Experiencing complexity in the double corona cigar is beyond anything else.  I assume that is why it is so close to the Cuban aficionados hearts and soul.

I just find that the Lusitania, Upmann Mag 50 and Hoyo DC are always under attack?  They are 3 of the best cigars out there.

The reason I don’t like the new world as much is the free draw and lack of complexity.  They only get amazing reviews in cigar aficionados 'cause they pay. 💰

Without being an antagonist, I am not sure from whom?

Certainly not in the CC world. People my prefer a different profile, but all three are classics in their own way. Vive la difference! :spotlight:

I read a few threads on FOH referring to that.  Some were comparison threads. But to your point, yes, it all comes down to your personal taste.

There are some (many) very good NC's out there. Plenty of threads on FOH (Daily Smoke being one).

I will post a thread tomorrow as to which NC/NC's have found a home in your humidor over the past 3 years. Keep in mind this has always been a predominantly Cuban cigar forum. It may shed some light for you. :ok:

I also read the find a good Lusitania box is like winning the lottery, is that true in 2023 and 2024?  And any ways to mitigate that.

To be fair, I think that is rubbish. Don't believe everything you read ;)

Stick to good vendors who check the stock.

Their haven't been many Lusi in 10's or 25's in 2023/24. What there have been are generally good.

I purchased a 50 on Bond Roberts so I am pretty excited.  I have some ones too.

I purchase from Montefortuna, LCDH Saint Kitts, ihavanos and EGM plus bond Roberts or when traveling from reputable stores. I assume that is safe. If

You need to read the rules of the forum in terms of vendors. There is at least one on that list that I wouldn't touch with a dead hand.

Sorry ok

Can you please send me the link to vendors policy thx. And also to best practices To verifying boxes. Thx

My personal opinion is the DC do not get the same attention simply because there are not many of them. Both in actual Cuban DC variations and the availability of each. Punch DC is like finding a needle in a hay stack. When you factor in recent pricing it's understandable they don't get much love.

To me, the Cuban DC are each masterpieces of the Marca, but again there are only a handful at that.

Also I would say many Cuban smokers prefer the smaller, more classic sizes. Even though I stock all of the DCs I routinely reach for a PC, Robusto or the best vitola of all the Corona Gorda.

My favorite Double Corona is the Monte A, tho I’ve never had one yet…😒

I 100% agree. I just know when smoking one that I have 2 Hours of quality time with friends… I love the size.

We may have heard of the saying, "All cognac is brandy, but not all brandy is cognac." In much the same way, when I think of a Double Corona cigar, I'm thinking of a Prominentes, which has a 49 ring gauge x 194 mm (or 7⅝ inch) length. Now, I am referring to the factory name here (i.e. Vitola de Galera). However, since Double Coronas is the common name (i.e. Vitola de Salida), this also includes the curiously sized Paco (of which the discontinued San Cristobal de la Habana El Morro and Hoyo de Monterrey Escogidos are its most well-known examples). One caveat I can add is the recently released LCDH Partagas Aliados (a Delirios with a 45 ring gauge x 167 mm or 6⅝ inch length) is also a Double Coronas. (Let's not even bring up the discontinued Romeo y Julieta Fabulosos - no-one really knows what that was!)

Thus, unlike the Double Coronas, a Gran Corona can only be a Giant Corona and nothing else. Their common names and factory names refer to the same vitola. The Montecristo A is the only one left in regular production. Some people out there have them...just saying.

A DC is nigh on a 3 hour smoke for me. Love the ones I've tried. Indeed on the whole light to medium and usually gently complex, aromatic, tasty. But I have been known to say boring to an aged VR Don Alejandro... I was just getting restless approaching 3 hours! 🤣

I can smoke a DC within the first half of an NFL game, an A by early 3rd quarter.  Of the DC's available today, the Lusitania is my least favorite.  Punch is my favorite, then Hoyo with RA a close third.  Punch is incredibly special when they are 20+ years old.

How are the young punch DC? Are they worth it ?

Shhhhhhh

why increase the competition to buy these beauties.
I can pretty much tell you the number of my remaining stock of DC. Fortunately I stocked up when Covid was hitting. Never enough though - I have a mental budget of how many can be consumed a year figuring I have 25 odd years of regular cigar smoking ahead of me. Not a special occasion only but not everyday. Hard to buy more though at 40/50 a stick so I likely have what I have.

Funny!! I respect the short and fat cigars too!!
