"in October 2020, a complaint published on X — former Twitter — by the CIMEX corporation against the online sale and in physical stores in Canada of a plagiarized Cubita coffee. Around the same time, also in Canada, Cuban emigrants had called for a boycott of another coffee brand that was promoted as Cuban.

That last case is unique. Upon inquiry, Reuters’ fact-checking service would reveal that the coffee in question was made by a U.S. company called Mayorga Organics, from a mixture of Honduran, Nicaraguan and Peruvian beans. In an interview with the British news agency, Martín Mayorga, CEO of the company, said he was surprised by the criticism from Cuban emigrants for his alleged relations with the island’s government, and attributed them to a wrong interpretation of the product’s advertising. “The concept of Cuban coffee refers to a style and flavor, not literally to it being produced in Cuba,” he justified.

Normal crooked justification. Amazing the people/customers who feel the same way. " This is just as good as.....

NO! No it isn't! One example. FLA. trip. "Bourbon distillery there. We're just as good as Kentucky. Sampled. Oh not only no but hell no!

Asked for something that goes good with cigars. It was awful. He said, and I quote " You must not know what a good cigar is."

My entire entourage busted out laughing at him. The walk of shame is so satisfying when a smartass has to take it. :)

We buy Mayorga coffee all the time at Costco!  Whenever we go there, we buy 4-5 2lb bags of coffee, each one different.  Always one is Mayorga.

Maybe we should mandate "style" after mention of a country on product advertising?  Cuban style coffee, Italian style bread crumbs, French style bread.  Seems fair if one wants to go down that road.

No different than "Cubanesque" cigars. Made with Cuban seed tobacco. No from Cuba directly! Also the "Cuban" sandwich. Wash it down with "Cuban style" coffee. Excuse my word salad.............😁
