This Hermosos No.4 has a dark wrapper and a bit of a box press. The band comes off easily. It is firm on the squeeze test with a reassuring crackle. Provided it ain't plugged, it's ready to smoke. Once clipped, the draw is snug but should be workable. Cold draw is forest floor and slightly floral. Off we go!

The opening stages show leather and forest floor. Draw is indeed firm - this means I have to work pretty hard but at least ensures a steady cool smoke. Burn line is sharp. There is little sweetness and the finish is short. It's thoroughly enjoyable though. The flavours remind me of outdoors and the beach. It's hard to put my finger on but I'm going with nuances of seaweed.

This is still very enjoyable into the second third. I'm working a little harder than I'd like against the firm draw but it's keeping me interested and the stick cool. Leather is the underlying flavour but there is some cut grass, seaweed, the sea. It progresses into a slightly sweeter profile, furniture polish the best descriptor I've got for it...

The final stages bring a sweeter woodiness. It's only fleetingly sweet though, then becomes darker, woody, chewy, a hint of liquorice, with the core of leather remaining. A really enjoyable smoke, put to rest at exactly 1 hour's smoking time.

Picadores it was! Sorry @jakebarnes too late to give you a shot at the prize!

Tough to review with no previous experience of these and no knowledge of expected tasting notes. One of the reasons I was keen to give it a go!

This was a gift from you @RDB 👊 nice stick, thank you!

Nice! It was the "vegetal/grassy (seaweed) but with a sweetness" part that made me think Picadores. They're not for everyone and are a whole different animal from the traditional PL line, but I do enjoy them!

Funny. I smoked one from the same box earlier in the evening yesterday! Mine was good too, but I didn’t get the same experience so didn’t make the connection.

I got one correct guesser 😁 but not at all surprised you didn't make the connection!

@RDB how would you describe your one? Or typical examples from the box?

I do think of them as having a vegetal sweetness, and I should have picked up on that from your review. Like a muted version of the sweetness of peas. I always feel they are similar to the Partagas profile in terms of sweet / savoury balance, but more vegetal and less bready. Always mid bodied or under, and completely unlike any other PL vitola. What I never get from them is leatheriness or strong spice.
