Popular Post Tdm_86 Posted June 18, 2023 Popular Post Posted June 18, 2023 Took the opportunity to break open a new 50 cab of PLPC for this review. Still quite young, so I’m curious to see where they’re at. They have been resting in my humidor for a little over a year, so should be well and truly acclimated. Paired with a splash of bourbon to wash away some of the mongrel I’m expecting. Pre-light A fairly dark wrapper with an amazing sweet barnyard aroma. The cigar is FIRM though, as good as no give. So I straight cut it, the is draw better than anticipated but still tight. I’ll give it a go without using the PerfecDraw first. First half Not a ton of smoke at first light up, draw is constricted. As a result there is not much to taste. A few draws in, I burn through the little bit of frayed wrapper at the foot and it starts putting off more smoke. On the draw it’s mostly light hay and a faint mocha that is followed by some sweetness. The draw and smoke output keep improving, didn’t expect that. Once I near the halfway point, it’s all burnt sugar and mocha with some leather on the back palate. Second half The burn is absolutely perfect, the draw is now exactly how I like it: just enough resistance to get a full mouthful of smoke on a draw. Still laden with burnt sugar (I wouldn’t call it caramel just yet) and the mocha turns into cocoa powder. The back palate is now more nutty than leather. Very pleasant and not even a hint of astringency. It’s started to drizzle just as I finish the cigar out. Conclusion What an enjoyable cigar, I’m perplexed at how approachable this was. The last 2 cabs I went through were all elbows and teeth in the first 4 to 5 years. Now this wasn’t to the full potential I know these have, but almost there already. It’s a testament to how good recent production actually is. My smoke time was 1 hr 22 mins. 90/100 I’m curious to how some of you have experienced young current production PLPC? 11
hrs1 Posted June 18, 2023 Posted June 18, 2023 Smoked a few from a RAT SEP 21 cab with similar results. The "burnt sugar" note is spot on Great review! 2
GVan Posted June 19, 2023 Posted June 19, 2023 Good review thanks! I haven't touched any of my 2021 PLPC boxes yet. Still working through he 2016 box which is awesome. How was the Eagle Rare as a pairing with the PLPC? Last fall Was in Savanah, Georgia and stoped into this little hole in a wall liquor store about 30 minutes away and was able to buy 2 bottles of ER 10 year for $39 each - score! 1

It’s pretty good with the brown sugar notes in the Eagle Rare, this pairing brought out quite the sweetness in both. Nice score on the ER for $39. Over here, I can always just get it for about that same price. It’s kind of weird with the allocated stuff over here in Europe, I think not enough people chase bourbon. The stuff that makes it over here is usually just available, but not every offering in the line. For example, Buffalo Trace and Eagle Rare are perpetually available for MSRP. But you won’t see Elmer T. Lee or Rock Hill Farms here (bummer). Also the really special stuff like BTAC is just as expensive as on the US secondary market, if any even makes it over here. On the other hand, I picked up a bottle of Weller 12 yesterday for €90 (just under $100). 1
GVan Posted June 20, 2023 Posted June 20, 2023 Good score on the Weller 12 - haven't seen that in years in Florida. 1

Tdm_86 Posted June 20, 2023 Author Posted June 20, 2023 Yeah it’s quite distinct, I guess it’s what turns into caramel when left to age for longer. But man, how approachable they are already compared to the other cabs I’ve had (2017 and older) 1
