El Presidente Posted January 26, 2023 Posted January 26, 2023 Deep Dive: Hoyo de Monterrey Le Hoyo de San Juan Released in 2014, the San Juan was at the vanguard of the 52+ RG brigade. It came in at 54 RG and the Habanos cigar community went nuts. The San Juan found its client sweet spot quite quickly. The cigar is a light-medium bodied creamsicle with a lovely brioche/baked goods canvas. It is smooth and well behaved. God forbid (in terms of Habanos) ....almost consistent. westg Posted January 26, 2023 Posted January 26, 2023 A favourite. Love the size, love the blend. 18 months for me, then hook in. 1
Bagman Posted January 27, 2023 Posted January 27, 2023 A favorite. Hate the size, love the blend. Much preferred over the Rio Seco. I get a lot of creamy cinnamon, woody and chocolate. Hot chocolate with whip cream and cinnamon. I find the blend similar to the HDM DC. 1 1
Chibearsv Posted January 27, 2023 Posted January 27, 2023 I really enjoy these with 5 plus years on them. Nice barnyard, cream, and sweet spices for me. Time seems to increase the body to medium full while the flavors are light medium. A nice balance. 2
NSXCIGAR Posted January 27, 2023 Posted January 27, 2023 Much different than the Rio Seco IMO. More in line with the Epicures and DC. A bit too dry for me. I prefer the RS although I'd much rather have a Geniales than a Aromosos. 1
Dlowil Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago Tried for the first time yesterday. Good light smoke. Great burn. The ring gauge is a bit of a drawback for me. 2
Lucas Buck Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago Smoked just my second one ever couple days ago and might be a honey box (2016) but these are just next level for me. Just wish they were 50-52rg. 1
JohnS Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago I must say they're quite nice after some long-term aging (like 10 years or so). I now feel like re-visiting my OLM Oct 2014 box again! 1
