Popular Post joeypots Posted December 28, 2022 Popular Post Posted December 28, 2022 10 years ago one might occasionally find a vendor from Hong Kong or Down Under that would put Cohiba Siglo VI tens on sale. For like 200$ US. Hard to believe. They were a bargain even if $20 a cigar seemed like a lot, and it did. It still does. But I salved my conscience by thinking I could sell the cigars if I needed some moola. Cohibas have been ridiculously priced for some time and I have a few so I have not bought any for quite a while. I did decide when prices started to get really crazy that I would not sell cigars that have appreciated in value, I’m going to smoke them and enjoy them. I bought them to smoke, damnit, and I’m not going to let money get in my way. I have wrapped a few boxes in plastic to slow down any aging on cigars that have a few years on them and I am definitely going easy on those I’m not willing to replace at current prices. Which brings me to the Siglo VI, RME Mar ’12. It started a bit mild but after a few minutes it developed the flavors I love. Mild citrus, or twang, a little nutty, a little coffee, a little chocolate, and just about as smooth as I have ever smoked, the VI was an elegant creamy tour de force of a cigar. Perfect draw, straight burn and no relights; construction was top notch. The smoke was thick and had a great finish. So I’m going to give this one a 9 out of 10, a 95 out of a hundred, and a definite "I liked it". I have a thought. The Siglo VI at ten years was a tad mild. Not expired, but a little richness was lost from the years of rest. I think this cigar, like a lot of cigars lately, did not benefit from too much age. The jury isn’t in by a long way but the idea that Cuban cigars are more approachable in the past 15 or twenty years is surely true and the effect of long aging, or ten years of aging, may not be as beneficial as it was in the old days. Of course the cigars may be in a second dead period, as MRN wrote, but my experience and taste tell me that I like most of my Cuban cigars at about 4 to 7 years. That’s where I’ve been finding the balance between rich and smooth smoke to be optimal. BTW, The band was loose on the cigar and I slid it off before I lit it. I put it back on for the picture. 18
RDB Posted December 28, 2022 Posted December 28, 2022 This was a great read, thank you. But that picture is causing problems for my brain. 1
