Hi all.  Just a quick question.  I heard something from a member of another cigar group that Cohibas "produced during the past year and a half can have imperfect Tanios [sic] since the labels are now made in two different factories, and under imperfect inspection standards due to the pandemic". I am under the impression that contemporary Cohiba bands have been produced by only Vrijdag Premium Printing in the Netherlands.  So, this seems like a most suspect claim; likely to rationalize why someone has purchased fakes with wonky bands.

This sounds like a load of 💩 that is peddled by people who either a.) got swindled or b.) did the swindling.

They also wanted to be able to quickly visually check cigars going out the door so they went with glass tops. Temporary of course...dang pandemic.

Amazing how far people will go to avoid accepting the fact they bought fakes.

Can't wait to hear their next explanation!

I read a forum thread from a couple of years ago that was similar to this.  A Cohiba buyer spent a ton of money on some nice cigars.  He noticed the bands were "off" and contacted the vendor.  The vendor gave him this exact explanation about multiple band manufacturers.  The buyer brought the information to Cigar Salute. I don't think I ever read about Cigar Salute's findings on the matter.  I dont mean to bring up the specific vendor or the specific cigars in question.  I am just curious if the multiple manufacturer theory has been completely debunked.

Thanks for your thoughtful reply. I highly doubt that there’s another Cohiba band printer, but I wouldn’t be at all surprised if Habanos was somewhat negligent with their payments to Vrijdag!?!

Seeing as how they've been working with Vrijdag successfully for many years I would guess Vrijdag is getting paid up front. No serious vendor would ever deal with Cuba otherwise. The jig has been up for years. If there was such a thing as an F- credit rating Cuba would have it.

I’m with you on this and just playing the devil’s advocate. But, given the state of Cuba’s financial situation over the past few years, is it not conceivable that they would try to use another, less costly, company to try to save money and further maximize profits?? You know…like maybe Zhang Wei’s Printing and Noodle House in China?? Maybe with ties to the part owner of Habanos SA?? 🤔

I'm willing to bet the "alternate" bands have the Vrijdag mark.
