Chas.Alpha Posted October 11, 2022 Posted October 11, 2022 Ok, I have gotten around to setting up my desktop (Windows) computer. It worked fine when I moved it, but now the mouse connects to the little USB thingy but it doesn't seem to recognize the keyboard. I even borrowed a new Logitech set from work and have the same problem. 😔 Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. CAH
yossie Posted October 11, 2022 Posted October 11, 2022 Did you test the mouse with another USB connector? I have experienced dysfunction of its connector.

ha_banos Posted October 11, 2022 Posted October 11, 2022 Just get away from Windows. This stuff doesn't happen in any other system. Try plug it into a different usb port. Reboot a few times. Reinstall drivers. Ask Cordelia, or whatever, to fix it. Which version of Windows? Try launching the troubleshooter. If all else fails you can always reinstall Windows. God I'm glad I left all that behind a long time ago. They've got a whole site on it https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/mouse-and-keyboard-problems-in-windows-94b4ca7b-4f2f-077e-4eb4-f7b4ecdf4f61#:~:text=First%2C try checking your hardware, sure the hub has power. And, sincerely, good luck. 1
Digi Posted October 11, 2022 Posted October 11, 2022 I prefer to be called a Computer Janitor 💪 Check batteries in the keyboard! Not uncommon, during a move, for a few keys to pressed down continuously - that'll drain you battery over time. If not that, try what @yossie prescribed. Assuming this is a wireless keyboard and mouse set? Let us know which brand and I can see if it has pairing instructions. 6 minutes ago, ha_banos said: Just get away from Windows. Chas.Alpha Posted October 11, 2022 Author Posted October 11, 2022 Like I said, I brought home a brand new Logitech K&M from work, same issue. Windows10 home is the OS. Mice work great (Old and new) but the keyboards aren't recognized.
yossie Posted October 11, 2022 Posted October 11, 2022 Then, It's natural to think Keyboards it selves don't have problems, if that's wired items. Also, hard to believe the movement effect on software like OS.
Digi Posted October 11, 2022 Posted October 11, 2022 You know, I had switched away from Logitech a while back for this exact reason. Have used the wireless sets from Microsoft even since w/o connectivity trouble. When you brought the new set home, did it come with a new receiver? Assuming yes, you tried it and that you saw the same issue with the new receiver. Have you tried the receiver in a different USB port? If yes to both of those, then we can dive into the Windows side of things.
rolaand Posted October 11, 2022 Posted October 11, 2022 Can you try the keyboard in the same port the mouse is currently in? If it doesn’t work after that I would guess it is a driver problem. Also depending on your computer there are some ports that look like usb but are really esata ports and a usb will plug into those but it wont work.
Chibearsv Posted October 11, 2022 Posted October 11, 2022 Uh, batteries in the keyboard? Make sure there isn’t a paper tab between them. Sometimes the keyboards ship that way.
Popular Post Fuzz Posted October 11, 2022 Popular Post Posted October 11, 2022 Turn off keyboard and take out the batteries. Go into the Logitech Unifying software, click on "Advanced" at the bottom of the window and remove all saved connections except for the mouse that is working Install batteries into keyboard but do not turn on Click on "Pair a New Device" in the Logitech software Turn on keyboard and follow the steps 5
Lamboinee Posted October 11, 2022 Posted October 11, 2022 Sounds like your best bet would be to just buy one with a cord. 2

I went fully Linux I'm afraid about 10 years ago now. And yes even the wireless printer works fine OOTB 🤣 Oh hang on... What's that? Oh, ok it's just a kernel panic. Be right back... 2
Capn_Jackson Posted October 13, 2022 Posted October 13, 2022 I’ve had similar problems with Logitech peripherals/mice, but only on PC’s. Haven’t ever had the same problems on a Mac, even when using the exact same devices. Maybe something about how Windows is accessing the drivers?

Might be helpful when talking about what you are experiencing in that you are using a wireless keyboard and mouse paired to a receiver that plugs into a usb port or are you using a mouse and keyboard that plugs into the usb port with a cable? these are two vastly different things. Folks that complain about macs vs windows vs whatever, shrug. It's less the operating system and more what's on it and how it is being managed. My personal MBP laptop runs like a champ, zero issues ever except the two times I dropped it on the floor. My work MBP laptop, which is EXACTLY the same spec Macbook crashes at least once a day, mostly overnight when it is sleeping. Every morning I have to wake it up, log in, dismiss the crash report, turn off the wifi antenna, turn it back on(otherwise it won't resolve DNS), log into the corporate VPN, crash firefox(it auto re-opens when I log in but my credentials get screwed up when this happens and the only way to reliably recover from this state is by starting firefox when already connected to our VPN and if I just close it I risk losing open tabs), renew my keychain, reopen firefox, and then initialize my keys for the day. Whole thing takes about 4-5 minutes, but it's EVERY day. Oh and I have to run firefox and chrome because certain internal corporate websites don't render correctly on firefox and some don't on chrome. Also have a PC for gaming. Runs windows, steam and games. I don't run anything else on it except games. I never have a problem with it either. Soooo.... sometimes it's just the crap running on the machine and not the machine itself.
