I don't really consider a 46 ring gauge to be a fat basterd, but the rules say that it is, so I'll play along.

Started off decently enough with what I imagine cinnamon tea tastes like (if that's actually a thing) and almonds.  The second third moved to a slight woody herbaceous note that quickly turned into a flavorless mess.  Final third had an occasional hint of earth and leather as the strength ramped up, but still stayed pretty bland.  Pretty disappointing overall as the flavor just couldn't match the body and never got any of the stewed fruit notes that I was anticipating.  2/5

I always found 16 and 17 RAS to be a bit off in terms of flavor. Definitely a pattern of blandness. They did recover a bit in 18 but IMO the initial run through 2013 remains the best.

Many 15/16 CCs are lackluster, I avoid most of them altogether.

I have boxes going back to 2012, these smoke great with a little age. RA's best RP stick by a mile.

This is a shame as I’ve always found the Superiores to be very consistent and has been a favorite of mine for a long time. That being said, most of my boxes have been ‘12-14 and ‘18-20 so maybe there was a bad run in the middle there. Recent production has been excellent.

Bought a box of MUR OCT12 back in August 2020 via BR. Smoked 8 of 10 and found them to be exactly as you described. Lackluster, flat, mostly woody/vegetal. None of that RA stewed fruit I expected, such as I consistently get from RASS and RASCC.

 

BTW, my wife makes me a cinnamon tea with honey and lemon whenever I get a chest cold. Opens up the bronchial tubes and reduces the cough so I sleep better. Old Mexican medicine my bruja uses on me. 😁

These taste almost exactly like the recent punch punch to me, especially the finish.
