NSXCIGAR Posted July 27, 2022 Posted July 27, 2022 I don't recall ever seeing the stamp say "MADE" instead of "HECHO". Perhaps these were marketed exclusively in an English-speaking region.
Shrimpchips Posted July 28, 2022 Posted July 28, 2022 CCW has an image of pre-Feb 1962 Country of manufacture stamp in an oval written in English: Fits the timeframe of a 1931-1961 manufacture, with the perforated version of the warranty seal. Although even pre-Rev, consistency of Cuba being Cuba with English stamping on the bottom saying “Made in Cuba”, but in Spanish “Fabrica de Tabacos de Vuelta Abajo”.
NSXCIGAR Posted July 28, 2022 Posted July 28, 2022 Yep, I don't know why I had post-Rev in my head. These are 31-61. But the stamp style is unusual for pre-Rev. It looks very much like the post-Rev style.
Ryan Posted July 28, 2022 Posted July 28, 2022 The warranty seal is perforated which would, normally, put it pre-1962. That could be a very old box, pre-1938. It has the "Compania Tabacalera Nacional Habana SA" stamp on it. Por Larrañaga took ownership of all C.T.N.H. assets in 1937 including the Petronio brand, along with La Gloria (different to La Gloria Cubana), Aroma de Cuba etc. It is possible that the new owners continued on with the old stamps on the box, like "Rodriguez Arguelles y Cia" was on the Romeo y Julieta bands until 2008 (and other examples) but, in the more capitalist days of Cuba, not as likely. Those old sideways sliding boxes were nice. 3
