My family in Eastern NC was doing this from 1800's on.... No one farms anymore, we just rent out the fields to other growers... We still have the pack house however and I still remember getting my rear end spanked when I would play in the fields and tear up plants while having dirt clod fights or running over them with my tonka trucks..

Middle NC here growing up. Loved the cash on Saturday.😁 Lots of family still in it. From growing to VP's at RJR. That or Hanes. Those companies made A LOT of millionaires in that town. 👍

My uncle (mother's brother) was the only one to make bank... He was smart /ruthless enough to farm all the family land (even though he was not asked to and did not pay) and then lease more to grow tobacco .. also lots of pigs and cows so he did pretty well for himself and his heirs (my cousins) . I love my cousins but I think he was an ass, I never expressed this around my mother when she was alive however...

Yep. A little late. The good times were before KKR bought them out. Played golf with a few of them. Great guys but ruthless in business. The older people who were there years before had a lot of stock. Like older Walmart employees. Then all the lawyers moved in and game over. No more good times for the average Joe.

Yeah,  it's just like watching water in a commode that you just flushed.  Picking up speed, heading down the drain. It used to be a good place to work, back when it was run by people who knew what they were doing.  Now its run by college kids that has never worked a day in their lives and don't have a clue.
