bibomain Posted September 27, 2021 Posted September 27, 2021 Hey guys, I was just reading an article where they mention different farmers in Cuba ferment leafs differently “each farmer has their own recipes for the fermentation. I was expecting this to be a long-held family secret, but Geraldo happily admitted that he uses honey, guava leaves and rum, creating a very smooth taste. Others use aniseed, cinnamon, even urine.” I wonder how true that is, wouldn’t the leafs they give to the government and factory have to be standardized for consistency? Also, do non Cuban leafs get fermented with honey and guava? 4
djrey Posted September 27, 2021 Posted September 27, 2021 The leaves destined for HSA production are fermented in govt warehouses and are done in the traditional way, no honey etc. What you read about are some various ways that some farmers may attempt to ferment a very small portion of leaves for some private cigars for their own consumption. 2

The small rest the farmer can keep will be fermented the traditional way - and that does NOT include honey, guava, rum or a virgins thigh ... 🙂 4

Finally…the long sought after holy grail of accelerated aging has been uncovered! The only way my wife could dislike my cigar fixation more is if she catches me urinating on box of Cubans. “What babe…it’s a 21 box?…it’s normal…all the farmers are doing it.” 2 2

Edicion Posted September 28, 2021 Posted September 28, 2021 No wonder I get that ammonia flavor sometimes. I thought it was some added chemical, now I know it's someone's or animal urine. Feel relieved.
