What happens to all the scraps when making premium cigars?

I don’t think this answered the question of where the premium scraps go to, “Vuelta Abajo scrap goes into the short fillers (LFDC, Quintero, RG) and  Puritos/Clubs/Minis (ICT products).”

I would assume the scraps for premium stuff such as Sir Winston isn’t mixed with the cheapest stuff from the same brand and a short filler made with the best leaves still taste better than cheaper lines with long fillers?

Can't answer your question, and am curious about the answers from the more knowledgeable members.

Fwiw, i have never noticed any difference between long, short or mixed filler Cigars

Not Cubans,  but Drew Estate makes smaller sticks out of the Liga trimmings.

All the by-product from the rolling room is collected and packed in the factory cellar. Technically, each week transportation arrives for it to be collected and taken to the cigarette factories who will in turn pay some money for the offcuts.  Of course, there are weeks where there is no fuel or the transport is broken or both. They run out of room in the cellar and cuban ingenuity/necessity comes into play. 

There is no separation between super premium by-product and standard cigar by-product.

Are you sure it's used in cigarettes? I'm not aware of any cigarettes using premium cigar tobacco. Totally different strains and processing methods. Wouldn't it go exclusively towards ICT products? I have no doubt there is plenty of top-tier leaf in ICT products.

Confirmed.  I knew it was picked up but wasn't sure if it went to cigarettes or ICT (mini's/puritos etal). Source at the scene confirmed it goes for cigs which is domestic obvioulsy. 

The offcuts are not regarded as premium. Literally, scraps.
