riderpride Posted July 21, 2021 Posted July 21, 2021 This summer I've switched to tubos for travel and camping - I'm tired of taking travel humidors as the kiddies love to open them whenever they find em and forget to close them. The problem now is that ~30% of the tubes aren't fully closed when I receive them. The cigars in question are Mag 46, Mag 50, Epi 1, Epi 2 and Monte Petit Tubos, so it's not just a bad box or two. I don't recall this before lipstick tubes. Could it be design flaw, tolerance issues, improper assembly, or careless customs agents? Initially I thought it was tolerance, but most seem to seal properly with a little pressure and a twist. Then again i usually smoke the loose ones in short order so I haven't done any long-term analysis on them. Thoughts? Cheers!
NSXCIGAR Posted July 21, 2021 Posted July 21, 2021 Likely less than optimal tightness at the factory. They'll begin to work loose with the tens of thousands of miles of travel they're subjected to before they reach you. Vibration, handling, temperature changes all play a part in that. Anything that's not secured properly will eventually come loose with enough time. Mechanic's law.
LordAnubis Posted July 21, 2021 Posted July 21, 2021 What do you mean by "aren't fully closed"? as in they don't seal properly, or the lid is completely closed down when you open the box? you may be thinking of it wrong, maybe it's so perfectly sealed that the fluctuation in pressure is causing the tubos to pop open? I mean we all the level of precision in Cuban manufacturing, its most plausibly that the precision is to the nanometre. That's the story i'm going with. 2
garbandz Posted July 21, 2021 Posted July 21, 2021 I always check first thing for mold, so it's not an issue, I always tighten the caps when they arrive. 2

Some spin freely, others lock up after a quarter spin. They could also be trying to seal them in a vacuum. Someone pulled a 'Spaceballs' and reversed it from suck to blow. Geez, could take an eye out. 🤔 Better smoke em all as soon as possible
