Çnote Posted May 11, 2021 Posted May 11, 2021 It's been raining in North Texas, which right now means it's cool enough to smoke no matter the humidity, which is my major issue when smoking at home. I unfortunately do not have a friendly lounge nearby, so if my backyard isn't right humidity wise, it's a hard pass. As we progress into summer, raining at 80f plus can happen, and there's simply too much water in the air to have a guarantee of proper draw and flavor, plus the high incident of wrapper split if something is delicate. Today is pretty perfect, 55f, high relative humidity, but absolute humidity is great for a cigar. I've still got 20 or so NC that are filling up my singles tray, so here we go. This was generously given by a friend who was concerned that my humidor needed stock. I like Viaje as I'm pretty sure there's a significant amount of CC DNA thinking when blending, especially for age. Construction is bar none, this is a weightly and well pressed brick. I wish CC felt and drew like this, it's the only complaint I have against them, but it's really just horses of different colors. To me, this starts with a Bolivar, fades into San Cristobal, becomes Montecristo and then PL; ie, a big blast of robust flavor to start with the figurado, molasses spice cake, chocolate creme and then caramel. The nub is clearly NC with big pepper, but the age has mellowed it to 'spicy' rather than 'overwhelming.' What's missing is any hint of Cuban twang, and it never tastes of tobacco. For me, it's a great cigar and unfortunately will be hard to get more of at any price, much less a fair one. 9/11 4
