Diplomatico 2 EML AGO 14 (VVRW#2)

I was inspired to smoke this cigar based on someone else on the board talking about RAT 20 Dip2s.  This particular box might have sat around for another 6 months without me sampling had I not thought, “Hmm - I wonder how my 14s are doing....”

Well gosh if this whole box ain’t purdy.  It’s EXACTLY the way I like them to look.  They smell great too.  My brother had never had a Dip 2 before so I offered him one.  First impressions:  HE WAS BLOWN AWAY. 

We got to chatting so sadly I didn’t take many photos of the cigar but boy was it FANTASTIC.  I like the concept of the piramides shape but I rarely smoke them.  I’ve long since traded away all my Monte 2.  I’ve heard great things about the P2 but my box from 2012 was good, not great.  I’ve never had a Cohiba Piramides.  (While not technically a piramides, BBFs are too strong.  I LOVE Sancho Belicosos.)

A nicely aged Dip 2 is the BEST.  They start out mellow and tea-like but really ramp in the second half.  It’s the second half that really rewards aging.  5-8 years is the sweet spot I believe.  Young ones have a strong back half and when they get too old, you lose the perfume-y first third.

I think you've convinced me to smoke another Diplomaticos No.2 from my EML Ago 14 box. Who knows, possibly @gojira too! (As he had an EML 14 box that smoking fantastically well too.)

My box is AGO as well. Looks like the three of us are in love with our boxes. 🙂

I had my last one in February and have to ration the few cigars that are left in the box as my next box in line is very young. I'm already looking forward to smoke my next one but it probably won't be before this summer.
