Popular Post Fosgate Posted March 20, 2021 Popular Post Posted March 20, 2021 Montecristo Double Edmundo GOB AGO 20 (FYARW) Picked these up a couple months ago and had yet to try them. I had a bit of free time today so I went down to my local cigar lounge and gave one a whirl. Pairing-Stella Artois Pilsner Cut- Guillotine Construction- Good, firm but doesn’t feel too firm, veinless wrapper with a few bumps, wrapper has a nice copperish hugh to it, Draw is tight. 3 plugs with the Perfectdraw tool and it’s respectable. Smells gorgeous 1st 3rd- Little ambitious as I torch the bottom few inches of the foot. Within a quarter inch of burn the draw opens perfectly. Picking up a bit of sweetness, leather and hint of wood, and cream. The wood drops significantly after 1-1/2 inch into the cigar and start picking up chocolate. It’s smooth and relatively mild. 2nd 3rd- Pretty steady with the last of the 1st 3rd. Nothing changing much, just a nice smooth mild smoke. Near the half a Couple of friends in the lounge are giving me funny looks as I’m smoking vertically to preserve the ash. One shouts, “Are you practicing bobbing for hot dogs?” with snickers. “Shaddap I’m trying to win some smokes!” I reply and just then the ash snaps off. I look at my hands now shaking like a paint shaker. Final 3rd- A bit stronger now, the flavors are still there but I smoke it all the way without it getting harsh. Final thoughts- I felt it was a bit mild but I definitely taste the potential of this cigar. I’ll lay down my two boxes for another year and try one again. Would I but again. I’d say so far yes. Ash: The cigar holds the ash well allowing one to control when they want to drop it to avoid doing the hot ash dance and getting it all over your clothes. That said, I don’t think I’d smoke it in a vertical style in public unless you have a bit thicker skin. 6

That's what I like about them. I find they come in right between the Edmundo and PE in terms of strength. The Edmundo, to me, is mild. And yes, I've always found the Mag 50 to be very mild. I avoid both generally. They've been MIA for a while, but I have a 10 box of DE coming in. Maybe recent production is mild but I hope not. 2

I've had one so far and it was probably over-humidifed and I noted it as 3/5 in strength. 4/5 is typical for me in terms of what I smoke. Of the regular Edmundos I smoked before I only noted the strength of 2 of them one was 3/5 and the other 2/5. So maybe it's stronger than an Edmundo but it's still pretty mild. Better flavours though than the Edmundos. It was very similar to the monte Supremos EL I had just not creamy. I have a few of those so I'll try to compare them again.

To me, the PE is 4/5, the DE 3/5 and the Edmundo 2/5, so we're pretty much in alignment. I see the DE as a toned-down PE blend. Not as strong but the richness is still there. It's got substance. The Edmundo doesn't it to me. It's very much like the Mag 50. You're just wondering what it is you're supposed to be tasting. Airy and bland.

For me the Edmundos were coffee and cocoa consistently one-dimensional, with one example having another flavour mixed in. The Double Edmundo was definitely more flavourful and less one-dimensional.

I know in my experience wet Montes are lousy Montes, so perhaps. Not saying I've never had a few dud DEs, but they are consistently very good for me. It's typically a regular rotation cigar for me, so it has to be.
smbauerllc Posted March 20, 2021 Posted March 20, 2021 I like the Double Edmundos, but like the Edmundo better. But to be fair I haven't had a Montecristo yet that I didn't enjoy. Definitely a big fan of monte's, probably my favorite and most smoked marca. I even enjoyed the couple of the Open line I have hadSent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk 2

smbauerllc Posted March 20, 2021 Posted March 20, 2021 This would explain your preference of the Edmundos. 3:My favorite is actually the No.2, but I like the Edmundo better than the Double Edmundos. Seem to have a little more strength which I like. Is saying that I liked the Open line like coming out of the closet? LolSent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk 2

Weird that you guys who like monte find the Edmundo light/bland, and me the guy who mostly dislikes monte enjoys the Edmundo ....interesting altogether Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk I don't hate it at all. But definitely on the milder/gentler side for a 52 RG cigar. 1

I thought the Edmundo's mildness was common knowledge. Again, very similar to the Mag 50. No secret they're both, let's say, more suave. Perhaps these recent DEs are lighter than is typical and more in line with the Edmundos. I'll know when mine arrive. 2 hours ago, Bijan said: I strangely feel like trying some Monte Opens now. Still tasty to me though, but they are probably amongst the mildest of what I smoke very often. I like the occasional mild smoke as well as the occasional strong one, and everything in between. Strength isn't a big factor for me. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
NSXCIGAR Posted April 2, 2021 Posted April 2, 2021 Cracked the first of my 10 box. BLT OCT 20. Absolutely fantastic--except for a damn fireproof wrapper. It's barely smokeable but I worked through it. Not as bad as the PEs I had a few months back that were total asbestos but also had great flavor. As far as strength, these are exactly as they always have been. Just a notch below the PE--3/5. Not mild by any stretch. Rich, balanced--outstanding. Blows the No. 2s I had recently away. No signs of youth even though these are 7 months old. Even smoking this faster than it should be due to the fireproof wrapper didn't affect flavor. Or maybe it did and these will be even better with a proper burn. Discounting the wrapper, I score this a solid 94 and a possible 95 with slower smoking. Reminds me why these have become a staple for me and along with the La Fuerza, my go-to Robusto Extra. If the next one has a bad wrapper I might take the rest to Carlos Fernandez and have him put a different wrapper on. It's good to have a master roller as a friend!

I had one early this morning after taking the wife to work and had to dig for this old post. First one that I had out of this box since this review and what a difference a few more months makes. Maybe it just wasn't fully acclimated from shipping. Regardless about a full year after receiving and they are good to go!

They're really blending these great and aside from the batch with the fireproof wrappers construction has been excellent as well.
baltic445 Posted January 31, 2022 Posted January 31, 2022 The 2020 Double Edmundos I've had have been solid but unremarkable, whereas the 2019 and 2021 Petites I've had have been rocking. Full flavor, medium bodied, cinnamon and cocoa. Delicious.
