This is one for all the FOH dads with daughters. File it away under genius. TJ has two lovely daughters the eldest being 12. The family were heading out to the big regional shopping center for some Sunday Yum Cha. They were all ready to leave when the eldest comes down wearing a crop top. TJ asks her to change her top as she is 12 and while acceptable around the pool at home, it is not acceptable for lunch. Eldest refuses on the grounds that she is old enough and that dad is out of touch. Standard operating procedure for anyone who has had a 12 year old daughter TJ doesn't argue. He says no problems but points out that if she can wear one .........then he can too. For point of reference, TJ resembles an Oompa loompa who has let himself go. So armed with pair of scissors he enters his bedroom, picks an old Tshirt, cuts off the bottom third, throws it on with gut fully exposed, heads down the stairs with keys in hand and says "let's go". Silence......but everyone piles into the car. Test of nerves but TJ told me he had no problem wearing the top to lunch. Reverse out of the drive......silence 20 metres down the road and then eldest yells out "STOP PLEASE STOP ....I WILL GET CHANGED!" I have seen the photos of both the eldest and TJ next to each other before they headed out. Having raised 2 girls I can say he's got many battles to come and shouldn't expect to win them. When they're older, they appreciate the fact the fact that you fought the good fight even though they thought you were a completely insensitive moron while you were fighting it.
