Having done two court hearings today from my kitchen with an uncooperative and insolent laptop, I thought I deserved a good afternoon smoke. I certainly got one.

This is from an HQ box; I would like to age some but I fear I won’t have the discipline. Construction and draw are perfect; cold draw has a ginger biscuit flavour.

It opens well, with lots of creamy smoke. The first flavour is a kind of burnt chocolate biscuit (burnt in a good way, I hasten to add). By the end of the first third the predominant flavour is a very clear milk chocolate. There is a slight woody undertone, and an oat biscuit flavour on the finish. The retrohale is creamy with a slightly sharp citrus note.

The milk chocolate continues in the second third, and is joined by a sweet citrus, almost like lemon curd. The retrohale is creamy, and the flavour oscillates between milk chocolate with lemon and creamy lemon curd. This is fantastic!

In the final third the predominant flavour is the milk chocolate; the slight wood from the first third reappears, but is in no way overwhelming. I detect - briefly - a note of caramel. The retrohale is still creamy, but has a fruity note which is closer to berry than citrus, as well as a slight touch of liqueur. The burn and smoke output have been perfect throughout.

I could quite happily have had another one of these immediately. A superb cigar. 94 from me. Delicious.

Great review!!! I LOVE Monte's when they're like that. And if they're smoking like that there's no sense in sitting on them!!!
