Why No La Corona RE's?

Recommended Posts

Is it the fact they sullied it so badly before it was abandond?   i.e  Belinda had a very fine history, but they've dragged it through the dirt for so long, that everyone with living memory just associates the name with terrible machine made dross.

Sadly I think the championing of largely dead brands, like LFD Cano, and La Escepcion comes from outside Cuba, from England and Italy respectively.   There is so much heritage in Cuban cigars, but sadly it seems to be a sword they don't want to draw

for instance if they did (as regionals):

Cifuentes Altezas

Siboney Especiales

Cabanas Y Carvajal Grandes

the real collectors market would go bonkers, but HSA are so intrenched in risk free boring Cohiba releases........well!  why would they?.......the flippers buy them, and the world keeps on turning.

Agreed - sometimes I wonder if they ( HSA ) even remember where the sword ( heritage ) is.

Hell, they have been looking at the ruins of the old La Corona factory now for  over 10 odd years and haven't decided what to do with it - the old "Castillo de Hierro", the Iron fortress, and just let it rot next to the Revolution museum.

Let it collapse and share the fate of Partagas.

Shame.

So true Nino and so sad.    I'm involved in the heritage industry, and I find it so sad, that sometimes the most ignored or looked over places/destination have the most in tact history  (through lack of investment/evolution).  I think there is a real case for world heritage to take real notice of Habana, and save it whilst they can.

As for HSA, it's all down to confidence, I think when a people have been so badly down trodden, it's always hard to imagine there is a history at hand, that many would pay top dollar to buy a slice of.

Yes, indeed and Mr Eusebio Leal Spengler did an excellent job of reviving/saving old Havana as much as he could before greed and the military snatched Habaguanex from his hands.

Re HSA : they would have to find anything valuable about La Corona to make it worth their while.

I feel like the entire Havana should be designated as a UNESCO site, money poured in to preserve it as it is, whilst Cuba can shift their capital to another (newly built) city.

But I suppose there are too many global and local political resistances to that. Unfortunate.
