Rhinoww Posted June 23, 2020 Posted June 23, 2020 Well it’s only fair that I post a review since I was reading the competition and erroneously replied to that thread with a DM discussion on Johnny O. Thanks to the mods for cleaning that up My bad Father’s Day weekend here so why not break into a box I was letting rest for just a bit. Have had the box for about 10 months. Never got around to cracking it open. No time like the present. Made a deep V cut. Tight roll but super easy draw. Like it wasn’t Cuban. I checked the band. Cuban. Should be interesting as it did not feel underfilled at all. Seems it’s been a while since I had an easy draw on a tightly rolled CC. I guess I have become accustomed to the variable rolls in exchange for the flavors. This one, however, presented with no compromises First third w a bit of earth and some bite at the start. I was wondering if I cracked this box open too soon. The bite and mongrel passed quickly thankfully. The first First third had a balance of flavor and a bit of lightness Paired nicely with a ginger ale. Was a nice cigar, but not memorable. Second third cranked up the intensity and it developed a lingering and pleasant milk chocolate aftertaste. These may not be too young. Much more enjoyable smoke. Burn even enough for no touch ups. Final third was the payoff. Tingle on the tongue. Almost like a bubbly soda. Smoke is now thick and dense. Flavors are more intense and linger. This one will be hard to put down, but 24 more in the box. A delightful relatively quick cigar that developed nicely and was a treat. A solid 88/89. 3
RDB Posted June 23, 2020 Posted June 23, 2020 Thanks for the review. I’m not familiar with these and they don’t seem to show up on 24:24. What is the story about where they fit into the Partagas line up?
Rhinoww Posted June 23, 2020 Author Posted June 23, 2020 Others will have more info. Here is my best guess/working understanding. The Mille Fleur is the “standard” production hand made Petit Corona from Partagas. Size is 42x 129. The Petit Corona Especial is a bit longer at 42x 132. What they do with those extra 3 mm? I was told a slightly more premium/longer leaf used for rolling. This was the first one I had smoked. In a binary like/don’t like world, I really liked it. ?. It’s worth a few bucks more to me over the Mille Fleuer so far. So that makes it Especial? @JohnS among others likely have the truth ? 1
JohnS Posted June 23, 2020 Posted June 23, 2020 The Petit Coronas Especial is a slightly stronger 'lower tier' Partagas cigar that used to be machine made like a number of other Partagas cigars such as the Aristrocrats, Mille Fleur, Super Partagas et al. They're perfectly fine for what they are but being a 'lower tier' cigar they don't tend to be listed on 24:24 sales.
