Bmbroads Posted February 3, 2020 Posted February 3, 2020 I tend to be a man of habits - as surely most of us are to some degree and I’m constantly looking for the next go to smoke, the everyday, the habit inducing. I’ve tinkered with the especial no. 2, the Fonseca no1 and the Upmann majestic among others. But as I make my choices I find myself much, much more interested in nailing the perfect Vitola for me than I do about taste. While all the above taste very different, I don’t have a strong preference and tend to lean toward making smoking decisions of the shape and mouth feel. Just wondering how you gents think about your selections and what you tend to prioritize.. the Vitola itself or the flavor profile??
BuzzArd Posted February 3, 2020 Posted February 3, 2020 I’d say i have a preference for thinner cigars, but that preference doesn’t keep me from smoking just about anything. Flavor wins.
Jbhunter223 Posted February 3, 2020 Posted February 3, 2020 I’m gona have to say flavor. I’ve always been a Petit coronas guy, but have been trying other sizes too. And I gota say the last 3 Choix supremes I had are making me look at robustos a lot more! I do still prefer smaller RG’s most of the time though.
superman0234 Posted February 3, 2020 Posted February 3, 2020 I tend to look to vitola first. It's an unfortunate truth that due to weather, work, or life in general, time is always a necessary consideration. I can typically spare an hour or so for a cigar, so some of the bigger cigars ive acquired over the years (mostly NC) have just sat in my humidors looking pretty. 1
Rabbi Posted February 3, 2020 Posted February 3, 2020 I have to go by flavor, but I don’t know where that will lead in my CC quest. I say I “have to go by flavor” because my preferred shape is a perfecto. Not seeing a whole lot of options there. ?
Chibearsv Posted February 3, 2020 Posted February 3, 2020 The daily cigar decision is primarily based on taste. I scan the humidor reminded of how each one will taste and decide which one is right for the day. The size and shape don't matter too much although I don't reach for the petites that often since I'm pretty big and they just aren't comfortable for me. I enjoy the journey of the flavors which must include a journey of the sizes and shapes. Even though I love the Churchill size, I'd hate to limit myself to the available flavors of Churchills only. I would miss out on some really great tasting cigars if I did.
bbguardsp Posted February 4, 2020 Posted February 4, 2020 Flavor. I love Rio Seco and Trinidad Reyes equally for example.
Lunettesman Posted February 4, 2020 Posted February 4, 2020 The way I choose is: - When I don't have time it's size then taste: I go for something small and then adjust to the taste I d like. - When I have time, then it's only up to the flavour. 2

Interesting - thinking about how I tend to lead with size first, I think the Trinidad Reyes is that beautiful combination that let’s me get the size I want AND I know will nearly always hit me with some beautiful flavors. Perhaps I need to revisit a bit more ?
Derboesekoenig Posted February 4, 2020 Posted February 4, 2020 I'm not in this hobby for habit-inducing tendencies per se. Yes, I tend to smoke 1 or 2 cigars per day, but I like to vary it quite a bit. It gets super boring when you're smoking the same cigar every single day. I do, however, go through phases of smoking through really great boxes of certain cigars. But then after I finish the box, I probably won't revisit that cigar for awhile (I tend to at least have 2 boxes of each type of cigar)
Cubadust Posted February 4, 2020 Posted February 4, 2020 I'd say I go with vitola first in that sence that I chose different cigars depending on how much time I have to spend on it. So like "Ok, it's a minuto / half corona kind of day", then I chose marca. 1
