Popular Post HDGSN Posted February 2, 2020 Popular Post Posted February 2, 2020 Cohiba Maduro 5 Genios ALT OCT 13 Mid-50s, sunny and 22 points clear of Man City with 13 matches to go The weather called for a larger format cigar. The other circumstances called for a fancier brand. Paired with water and a dram of Mulata 7 Year Rum Cold draw and aroma: Chocolate raisins and intoxicating cedar humidor 1st Third: Hay, cedar and chocolate 2nd Third: Chocolate and ash, wonky burn with a leather thick wrapper Last Third: Raisins, anise and chocolate Each cigar from this box has had burn issues over the years requiring lots of relights and attention to keep it from going bitter or going out. It’ll be my last box of Cohiba Maduros that I purchase. If I want chocolate, I’ll go with Montecristo. If I want raisins, I’ll go with Ramon Allones. If I want Cohiba, this is not Cohibaesque to me. I have a couple left. I’ll save one and burn through the others this year. 82/100 Chiefs 31 49ers 28 8
Wookie Posted February 2, 2020 Posted February 2, 2020 I have a box of 2014 Genios and though the construction has been fine, the flavors are muddled by the Maduro IMO. I don't think traditional cohiba DNA works well with this wrapper. It doesn't know what it wants to be. 1
Doctortrent Posted February 2, 2020 Posted February 2, 2020 I have one of these from a sampler I won a few months back. Was looking forward to smoking it

RDB Posted February 2, 2020 Posted February 2, 2020 Nice review, thanks. If you don’t like ‘em much, then why smoke them now? May as well put them away and see if you prefer them when they are ten years old. You’ve been patient already!

That's what I'm doing....I have a little more than half a box remaining and I'm resting them. They are good cigars, just not what I would expect from a cohiba. Will be interesting to see what 8-10 years of age will do.

A combination of (1) at 6.5 years I don’t taste much potential still in them and (2) finishing a box provides a perfect excuse to get a new box of different cigars.
