pistolpete85 Posted January 18, 2006 Posted January 18, 2006 Hey everyone, looks like a great community here for experts and beginners like me. I have a couple questions maybe someone can help me with. I really am starting to enjoy petite coronas more and more this winter here in cali. So far I've gone through a box of montecristo no.4 and bolivar's. I really enjoy those flavors as well as a few sancho panzas from 2003 that were similar. I'm looking for a few suggestions on my next 2 boxes. If possible around the same price range since I barely have enough money to eat with this great habit hah... Thanks alot I look foreward to learning alot from the members on this board.

Colt45 Posted January 18, 2006 Posted January 18, 2006 Personally, I'd go with another box of Bolivar, and if / when you can find them, I'd give the Por Larranaga pc a try. For more $$, the Cohiba Siglo II.

Cool thanks, I'm leanin towards the san cristobal and ramon allones. I got some cohiba siglo I but to me it burns too hot, at least mine do.. so maybe the siglo II might be good choice , hopefully its worth the extra cash.
The Privateer Posted January 18, 2006 Posted January 18, 2006 Siglo 2 is a great cigar. Try the Juan Lopez PC for a nice, easy smoke. Other than that, the Bolis are more consistent flavour-wise in my experience. For smaller ones, I'd lean towards the Ramon Small Clubs or Bolivar Coronas Junior.

Tampa1257 Posted January 18, 2006 Posted January 18, 2006 Partagas Short Ramon Allones Small Club Corona Bolivar Corona Junior SCDH El Principe Diplomaticos No. 5 Montecristo No. 5 Trinidad Reyes Cohiba Siglo I I am sure there is something on this list that would meet and exceed your needs.
Mel Posted January 18, 2006 Posted January 18, 2006 Let me tell you my new friend, you have started with a couple of the best PC's to be found and I bet you will always return to these. The Sig II is good but expensive. Try to find the Por Larranaga PC it will not disapoint you. Any of the ones Tampa has recomended will be nice, especially the San Cristobal.
Van55 Posted January 18, 2006 Posted January 18, 2006 It never fails. Someone asks for recommendations within a specific vitola and within a few posts every "brand" within the vitola is named and someone suggest cigars from a different vitola. Pete, you have asked for "petit coronas." Strictly speaking, all Cuban cigars in this vitola are machine made. They are: Belinda Petit Coronas; H.Upmann Aromaticos; H. Upmann Regalias; Hoyo de Monterrey Coronations; Partagas Mille Fleurs; Por Larranaga Lolas en Cedro; Ramon Allones Mille Fleurs; Romeo y Julieta Mille Fleurs; and Romeo y Julieta Romeo #2. Of the above, I have smoked only Regalias and Lolas en Cedro. They are excellent examples of machine made Cuban cigars and are a bargain. The cigars you say you enjoyed, though often commonly referred to as "petit coronas" are technically of the marevas vitola. They are: Bolivar Petit Coronas; Bolivar Tubos N°2, Cohiba Siglo II; Diplomaticos N°4; El Rey del Mundo Petit Coronas; H. Upmann Petit Coronas, Juan Lopez Petit Coronas; Hoyo de Monterrey Short Hoyo Coronas, Montecristo N°4, Montecristo Petit Tubos; Por Larranaga Petit Corona; Petit Coronas del Punch; Punch Royal Selection N°12; Rafael Gonzalez Petit Coronas; Romeo y Julieta Cedros de Luxe N°3; Romeo y Julieta Petit Coronas; Saint Luis Rey Petit Coronas; Sancho Panza Non Plus; and Vegueros Marevas. Quite honestly, I don't think you can go wrong trying any one of these. Don't tell anyone, but the Romeo Cedros DeLuxe #3 are often overlooked, excellent cigars to my taste. I also like the Diplomatico #4 as an alternative to the less consistent Monte #4. Try them all! By the way, RASCC and El Principe are excellent little cigars as well, but they are of the smaller minutos vitola.
Loki Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 Great info for this guy Van. I think his head is about to explode soon.lol
mgillett Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 Another suggestion is the RyJ Petit Corona. Not my absolute favourite but not bad and easy on the pocket.

Cool thanks actually im gonna go with ramon allones small club since i never had them as well as san cristobal el principe
PigFish Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 Interesting technical notes… Some Marevas may be Petit Coronas but not all Petit Coronas are Marevas!!! –LOL As a side note; ask Rob what is smoking well, take his suggestions, let them settle in at your home awhile, enjoy smoking the hell out of them! This rule applies to all size cigars including Marevas! -Piggy
genevapics Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 Van55, That is one heck of a detailed post. Well done. There on some items there that have piqued my interest. Thank you for the information.
mr.harten Posted January 20, 2006 Posted January 20, 2006 You will love the El Principe, I know I sure do.
Ken Gargett Posted January 20, 2006 Posted January 20, 2006 Strictly speaking, all Cuban » cigars in this vitola are machine made. van, i am curious as to why you suggest that all in this vitola are machine made? my understanding was that certainlyt the plpc's were hand rolled and the monte 4 seems to be the cigar that the newer rollers first are allocated. are we being misled?

Wiley Posted January 20, 2006 Posted January 20, 2006 Ken, I think you mis-understand what he's trying to say. petit corona = machine made mareva = hand made Hand made cigars called a "petit corona" are actually a mareva. ... unless I'M the one who is mis-understanding, which I'm told by my wife happens often.
Ken Gargett Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 thanks for that - had weondered about the distinction but never looked further - thought it was one of those odd cuban things.
