Popular Post MoeFOH Posted January 2, 2020 Popular Post Posted January 2, 2020 Hoyo de Monterrey DC - Delamain Cognacs By @Ken Gargett One of the discussions Rob and I have had in recent times, which pertained to cigars, was the Hoyo DC’s. I have said this numerous times before – there are really only two times he has steered me wrong. The toxic toad of tobacco known as Monte Cs and a box of Hoyo DC’s. Wookie Posted January 3, 2020 Posted January 3, 2020 Nice write-up! I too have struggled with Hoyo DCs since the 1990s. I have some 2014 and 2015 cabinets and they are pretty bland. I end up smoking them once in awhile on longer drives. Maybe need to try a more recent vintage. I've had traces of brilliance from some Hoyo San Juans...so much so that I think I own at least a hundred of them now...though they usually disappoint. Different strokes for.... Cognac? Was really introduced to it by Bernard Freden, proprietor of park ave liquors in NYC in the late 1980s. Love it but probably steer to bourbon for the relative affordability and quality at low price points. But I'm a sucker for brandy....grapes offer so much complexity. Pierre Ferrand Selection des Anges was the one I started with back in the day. Now it's a touch pricey for me. Would love recommendations on a good $30 Cognac.
