RYJ Exhibicion No.4 TES MAR 17 (SM3RW)

This was a lovely late night smoke courtesy of @MigsG  Only the second one I’ve ever had.  The first was in the FOH  “new to cubans” sampler long ago, and I remember really liking it, but somehow the stars never lined up for me to try more.  So here we go.

The wrapper is very nice, smooth, a little sheen, smells like rawhide/suede, with a hint of sweetness.  I clip it, and of course, it’s plugged.  Solid.  It won’t even draw.  I break out the perfecdraw, and it absolutely saves the day.  Now the cold draw gives a slight nutty flavor.  Paired with a Glenlivet 18, which is always good.

Right out of the gate, an awesome combo of sour cherry, and dark chocolate, which carries all the way through the first third.  My mind keeps picturing those chocolate candies that have a syrupy tart cherry in the center.  Excellent.

Into the second third, the dark choc fades and turns into a lighter cocoa, which made me think, and I don’t ever recall having a cigar progress that way.  The chocolate almost always starts light and then turn into dark as it gets tarred up.  I also get random flashes of a sort of creamy chai tea, which is great.  It is solid medium bodied.  The finish is light leather.  The retrohale is floral, almost potpourri, which sounds gross but is quite nice.

It was late, and honestly I don’t even remember the last third, other than the smoke started getting hot as it funneled through the reamer hole.  But I know I nubbed it.

On my scale of Crap<Decent<Good<Very Good<Excellent, this is Very Good.  I definitely need more in my life.

Great review, thanks. I have a box of the very same code, so it's nice to hear yours was so good. 

I think of them as a 'grown up' Short Churchill. Just a bit more serious than its sibling.

Ex 4 is like chocolate covered red fruit imo. These are my favorite from the ryj line. Id take one over a churchill any day.
