Rhinoww Posted November 25, 2019 Posted November 25, 2019 Picture below is of a recent acquisition of mine. I’ve had it a few weeks. As soon as it arrived, the bag it was packed in was opened in it was placed in my Coolidor which has been holding a rock solid 65 rh. Current temp in storage area is 66 F. I did not notice any issues. I did not inspect each cigar on arrival but they were well packed. The others from that bundle look great. Wondering if there was something I did in the storage process or if this is the 1 in 500 CC for me at least that has a construction issue that show up? Did this one stick just absorb water more quickly that others and crack the wrapper? per my practice whenever I open the Coolidor for more than a second, I spritz the heartfelt beads w some distilled water. Wondering if this was the result of a burst of humidity related before the beads took over? more importantly will this smoke or will it be a struggle not worth the effort?
Shelby07 Posted November 25, 2019 Posted November 25, 2019 It appears that somebody dropped it at some point before you got it. 1
SmokyFontaine Posted November 25, 2019 Posted November 25, 2019 Yah, a wrapper crack or tear near the foot? Treat with fire. If it's split through the binder, I suppose you could try to cut it in half and get a HUHCA but I would wager the tear will just keep running. I notice more cracks in wrappers when buying during my winter months. They are getting cold, for extended periods of time, then living in my house, where even my cheap ass can't keep the heat below 62F. Temp and humidity difference seems too extreme. Yet....I just keep buying....
SenorPerfecto Posted November 25, 2019 Posted November 25, 2019 Spritzing water each time you open the box? Waaayyyyy too fussy, and very likely overhumidifying/spiking. Be lucky if you don't end up with a mold farm. 4
El Presidente Posted November 25, 2019 Posted November 25, 2019 It could be the result of a drop....the jagged nature of the tear alludes to it. "sprtizing" the beads everytime is overkill. 3
Rhinoww Posted November 25, 2019 Author Posted November 25, 2019 Got it. Thanks. I think the issue must be humidity not a drop. I have seen a few recent cigars have a bit of a bloom at the end as well. My doing not a drop. a wise member here suggested a piece of paper over the split as I smoke it. Worked like a dream just starting second third. Great tasty cigar even w the over humidity disfiguration. I have a number of hydrometers in the Coolidor at different levels all showing 65. I wonder if tobacco is higher due to my overwatering
Rhinoww Posted November 25, 2019 Author Posted November 25, 2019 Lesson learned and cigar saved. will leave Coolidor open for 10-15 min a few times to air it out with a few grand of sticks in the cooler I do want to get the rh right. One stick is a lesson. The Coolidor going down would be a disaster 1
Wookie Posted November 25, 2019 Posted November 25, 2019 Sometimes a good cigar glue might be able to bind it up enough to make it smoke....have you tried PefecDraw glue? 2

A piece of paper did the trick. A band may have been more elegant but I ended up using a post it quite successfully
Fuzz Posted November 26, 2019 Posted November 26, 2019 Get some cigarette rolling paper or use part of a wrapper from a donor cigar (eg a plugged one), to patch the split. 1
stogieluver Posted November 26, 2019 Posted November 26, 2019 Perfecdraw glue has worked for me on a tear like this.
shippers Posted November 26, 2019 Posted November 26, 2019 I have used Gum Arabic in situations like this applied with a fine paintbrush. Sticks everything back in place every time I've tried with no flavour impact I have noticed. It's cheap and available in any art store.
