Vito Posted October 27, 2019 Posted October 27, 2019 Anyone else familiar with these? To me much better than the Davidoff Royal Release, which I had earlier in the week. In fact I thought the Davidoff Royal Release was a disappointment and waaay too strong in the nicotine department. But for what these go for, I think is fair for the quality on the cigars all the way around, from construction, tobacco quality to performance. Just a top notch cigar to my tastes. I’m not the reviewer a lot of you guys are not do I purport to be but it exhibits a lot of exotic flavors I’ve not tasted in other cigars. It’s weird but good. Figured I’d share. Have a good weekend everyone. 3
kalibratecuba Posted October 27, 2019 Posted October 27, 2019 It's okay. I don't agree with the price being fair. Rumor is that there is Cuban tobacco in it. I didn't pick up any hint of it. Nice band. I love the tubo humidors that some of them come in.Sent from my GM1917 using Tapatalk
Vito Posted October 27, 2019 Author Posted October 27, 2019 I guess it’s Nelson Alfonso that designed that packaging. And yes I agree with you, I am not getting any hint of Cuban tobacco. And probably on price too, I’m just feeling freshly burned after smoking an $80 cigar that did not impress at all. So the $30 is kind of relative to me right now. I think that’s also the noncuban markets too, a huge reason I don’t regularly purchase/smoke NC in quantity like I do with the cigars Rob and Diane sell to me. I bought the Ritos, Duendes which is the torpedo, and the Bendifos. So far the Ritos is the only one that is impressing me. Glad to know that about the Byron cigars. You saved me $100 I was going to spend on one of their 3-paks. 1
cigcars Posted October 27, 2019 Posted October 27, 2019 *I picked up this cigar, made it a point to...and was not impressed at all. Did not get anything flavor-wise, aroma-wise, or other-wise with it. I was looking forward to its being a flavor bomb as some folks described. But - nah. Not even a little. Just to let y'all know, I obtained and tried the new Byron smokes out too - just as expensive and exclusive in its availability. Again - nothin'. I asked my local tobacconist who has his own brick and mortar store, and has surprised me with wonderful highly desirable smokes, what he thought of the Byron. His opinion was the same as mine...not really worth the hype and the price they want for it. But - hey...if it works for you, happy for ya'!
BJRPorter Posted October 27, 2019 Posted October 27, 2019 I enjoy them. Not so much the price. That said, I grab these over Davidoff each time. Flavors are subtle and smooth. Byron Poemas I found bland at first, but by the third one I learned how to distinguish the flavor evolution and find it enjoyable when I want a little bit stronger of a nicotine kick. If you want in your face flavor profiles neither the Atabey or Byron are the right tool for the job. Last, but certainly not least, they all burn perfect. I’ve had most of the different Atabey Vitola, from multiple b&m, and the construction and burn on all of them has been flawless. Definitely worth a try. Luckily for me, the first one I smoked was from a trade. Probably would not have dropped $30 on a cigar I knew nothing about. I pick up a few every once in awhile to make sure that I have a few on hand for when the mood strikes.
Wookie Posted October 27, 2019 Posted October 27, 2019 I find the Atabey to be pretty bland. I like the Byron better. Both are expensive. I don't much care for the Davidoff Royal Release either, though the Royal Salomone is a great cigar (different blend than royal release).
inter4alia Posted October 27, 2019 Posted October 27, 2019 I was gifted one. I thought it was OK. Very mild. But the price puts it way out of reason in my opinion. 1
cbenham73 Posted October 27, 2019 Posted October 27, 2019 I tried the Atabey based on some online reviews and research. It is supposed to have similar flavor and construction profile as the Behike. It was ok not great. The construction and burn were excellent but not something I will smoke often at that price point.
anjimj Posted October 27, 2019 Posted October 27, 2019 I echo alot of what people are saying here. I have tried them all and Atabey is pretty bland and i even try to smoke them really slow to keep the cigar cool thinking maybe i would get flavors but just not getting flavors. I just gave up on them. The Byron grand Poemes is flavourful and that would be my only pick. Is it worth $33/per stick?, No. 1
Shelby07 Posted October 27, 2019 Posted October 27, 2019 I bought a fiver a couple of years ago. I really enjoyed the first one I smoked to the point where i was contemplating getting a couple of boxes. Then I smoked the other 4 and they were totally unexceptional. Totally confused me.
