RicoIsHere Posted September 25, 2019 Posted September 25, 2019 This is one of the best lounges in D.C. and now it's being shut for who knows how long. http://civillounge.com/civil-cigar-lounge-to-close-this-thursday-lets-drink-the-bar-dry-before-then/
mgcrunch Posted September 26, 2019 Posted September 26, 2019 Two days notice, rough. Regret I can't make it out there to support them. Their shop got chopped at the knees as well, no smoking inside (for now.) Great guys that own and work at the WCD family, hurts to see them losing ground.
irratebass Posted September 26, 2019 Posted September 26, 2019 This really sucks, I've never been there, but this is a well respected B&M.....sorry to hear this....I hope they get this rectified.
RicoIsHere Posted September 26, 2019 Author Posted September 26, 2019 That mall is right next to Chevy Chase and Bethesda in Montgomery County Md. They both banned outdoor smoking in public places and any restaurant unless they have been grandfathered because of their existing set up prior to this smoking ban. Fact is that mall has been declining in business as most malls and this great lounge is victimized, with opinion this type of business is bad.
Cayman17 Posted September 26, 2019 Posted September 26, 2019 Wow. Drapers DC is my favorite place to smoke when visiting DC, and their shop is impeccable. Very sad to hear about this. Civil is a very nice lounge/bar but it was not very close to downtown DC. I was there once for a Padron but was not likely to return due to the location. Hopefully they can move it closer to the area where Drapers is located. Very disturbing turn of events for cigar smokers.

They used to allow BYOB, however there was an incident on their patio, and some walkers-by were offended. Now the entire city of Bethesda does not allow any establishment to BYOB.

And the only bar that has some stuff I don't have. It's actually a high end establishment with a family type of vibe.

I’ve never been to the Bethesda location. If I go to Maryland I’m in Annapolis, and there is only a tiny cigar shop there, to my knowledge. But the Bethesda drama appears to be alcohol-related, so hopefully people can still smoke on their patio.

Habana Mike Posted September 28, 2019 Posted September 28, 2019 Shame to hear. Only been a couple of times but enjoyed it. I usually go to Shelley's Backroom when in DC. Great menu, the Blackened & Bleu Burger is off the chain!

Great menu, the Blackened & Bleu Burger is off the chain!I like Shelly's. We have a whiskey & cigar club tasting in October. Dinner at Morton's steakhouse and cigar spot was supposed to be Civil, now we are going to Shelly's.
thirty1z Posted October 6, 2019 Posted October 6, 2019 Man, I can't believe Civil closed. I just discovered it earlier in the summer, right around the time when I found the forum. That's just my luck. I literally planning on going there Friday night after dinner, but the weather was nice enough to park myself outside on the porch. That's a real bummer. Thankfully, I do like Shelly's a lot and that seems to be one of the only indoor spots left in town. I've been to TG's by the convention center a few times as well, but Shelly's is much more comfortable to me.
