Popular Post Kaptain Karl Posted May 19, 2019 Popular Post Posted May 19, 2019 I was going to be taking a few weeks off from smoking due to an ulcer but the girl I’ve been chasing told me to F off so screw it, I need a cigar and a scotch ?. This is a beautiful stick gifted to me last year by a true botl! Paired with a freshly opened bottle of Clynelish 14. 1/3 begins with a beautiful earthy creaminess with coffee and cocoa on the end of the retro. A few puffs in I get a root beer flavor, a first for me! The flavors are very smooth yet well defined. 2/3 well I’m back after a long text to the girl concluding my pursuit and dealing with a ridiculous tunnel into this amazing cigar. Now it appears the awful burn problems are gone and appears a delightful Carmel/root beer sweetness with the Cuban twang on the retro that reminds me of the carbonation in a root beer. The flavor is back to being utterly delightful. A few puffs in a strong nutty note comes in and then the ridiculous tunneling reappears. I have no idea why but apparently 1 out of every 5 cigars tunnel for me. This way kept at 62% humidity, maybe I light my cigars like an idiot? The only thing keeping this going is the smash technique I learned on this forum. 3/3 Cuban twang is in full force here which is quite delightful. The creamy root beer/earthiness returns. At this point, it’s different flavors every 3 puffs. Ridiculous complexity. Although I do feel that bolivars, when on, are the most complex cigars I’ve smoked. It’s not always the most important factor for me (flavor profile and richness are typically the top factors for me) but it’s one of the reasons I love bolivar so much. Overall, this would be a 97 point cigar and one of the best cigars I’ve ever had, but the tunneling was just ridiculous. I don’t think I can award points with the bunching/tunneling issues but this is certainly motivating me to put away a PSP box for 7-10 years. 11
JoeyBones777 Posted May 19, 2019 Posted May 19, 2019 Nice review. Root beer note is interesting but I can see the malty stout flavor mellowing and morphing to a root beer type flavor over time.
99call Posted May 19, 2019 Posted May 19, 2019 I can definitely make sense of root beer and Bolivar. I would say this is akin to the sweet liquorice that many get
Guantanamera Posted May 20, 2019 Posted May 20, 2019 Root beer, licorice , malty stout are all similar flavors to me.
Bagman Posted May 20, 2019 Posted May 20, 2019 I get the root beer taste off an Illusione cigar. Great flavor. What is this "smashing" technique you speak of?
