Popular Post Akela3rd Posted May 12, 2019 Popular Post Posted May 12, 2019 A lovely long Lonsdale seemed like the perfect choice for a campfire cigar on a Saturday night. This VR Clásicos from the year 2000 came from@RDB in the UK Box Pass ( thanks Richard) and I was looking forward to it all day long as we kept the Scouts busy and tired the buggers out. Eventually they gave in, leaving the fire to the leaders...The wrapper was smooth and velvety, the construction spot on, and the prelight draw, though tight, was nutty and every so slightly sweet. My first revelation was marshmallow (none too be had by the fire BTW), definite and 100% marshmallow, confirmed by a colleague who both smelled and tasted it. This stayed with me for the first ten minutes or so. The cigar didn't give out much smoke and I didn't fight the right draw, taking small puffs. Very pleasant indeed. After a while the cigar relaxed a little and the draw improved and the subtle flavour of light cocoa came through. It was all very laid back and I enjoyed the change of such a mild cigar. Into the second third there was again a subtle change with floral notes coming in. The smoke from the fire didn't interfere on a still evening which certainly helped in discerning the flavours. Normally I'd go for a Cazadores or a Partagas around the fire, but this was working well. The strength upped a little into the final third, the marshmallow came back and now the cocoa was getting stronger ( Belgian chocolate truffles were doing a circuit of the fire at this point, which may explain this). I was reluctant to flick the nub into the fire at the end but had to do so to save my fingertips. All in all an excellent aged cigar. Subtle and complex, relaxing and very enjoyable.8/10 Sent from 47171 Lempo 10 1
RDB Posted May 12, 2019 Posted May 12, 2019 Ahh, I’m delighted this worked out well! Sounds like you treated it right, and as so often happens, a little gentleness was reciprocated. 1
